reusing tyvec sleeves, hair nets and surgical masks
    #21245239 - 02/08/15 07:03 PM (9 years, 24 days ago)

Are tyvec sleeves, hair nets and surgical masks pretty much just  one time use items or can they be reused over and over without risk of contaminating the cultures?

I've always just used them once and then trash them, with the exception of the tyvev, which I keep for filter material.

I say if you can autoclave it, you can reuse it. Others may just do the one-time&trash thing though.

You autoclave sleeves and hairnets?

I wear a baseball cap and don't do shit to my tyvek sleeves.  I think I've PCed them like twice.  They go into a drawer right under my flow hood along with my face masks that I also reuse.  Hell I even reuse my disposable gloves until they rip.

Good to know, I've been throwing all of my stuff out after one use and it seemed awfully wasteful, i got thinking that a good dose of Lysol spray should be good enough to reuse this stuff.

ill PC my sleeves once in a while if they look dirty.  most of the "dirt"/discoloration comes from the hand/wrist area though, when u pull it off after ur done, skin cells/oil/etc accumulate on it.  so now i take them off before i take my gloves off, so there is less abrasive contact with skin.
