Uncommon San Pedro question

Hello friends! I wish all of you well. I have been a lurker for many years and have finally made an account.
My father recently gifted me this young San Pedro which was detached from the side of the mother plant.
I am going to plant him into a large pot so my questions for you are as follows.
1. My main question, Are these roots from the bottom or should i cut the base and allow to callus before planting.
2. should i be worried about the holes on the side?
3. it is around 1' 6" long and probably about 5" from rib to opposite rib. what potting size do you recomend?
Thank you in advance.

all your questions are very common
1. those are not roots growing from the bottom, but remnant of the inner core from being torn off the mother plant. It would appear there is already a decent callous going so i would personally leave it as is.
2. if the blemishes were to blackin and begin to spread you should be concerned, otherwise a bit of scarring never hurt anything
3. plant in bone dry soil or wait awhile for a thicker callous. Pot size doesn't matter so much as long as you give your cactus lots of room to spread its roots so it can grown nice and big
good luck.

haha yeah i thought the roots question might not be so common and supposed the word uncommon might draw some looks to help me.
Awesome! thank you for your knowledge.
1. the diameter of the callus area is only about 1 to 1/2" and 2" So i am assuming this is the only place the roots would grow from. might it be better to cut the entire base off to give him more support?
2. How deep do you recommend planting him?

roots will emerge from all of the buried areas of the cactus not only the calloused end.
plant as deep as needed to be free standing, I like to use larger rocks sometimes to keep them up right till they get a good root-hold
