How many of you have tried crazy experiments?
    #2123404 - 11/19/03 06:51 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Tell me about it.
I have tried to grow in pumkins and gourds... Lots of Myc. no time to fruit.
I also tried to use wall paper. Old paper paste was made with corn starch... Fruited fine but only produced small mushrooms.
I tried tapioca pudding..This did good but it only grows on the surface. Produced three mushroom a week for almost six months.
I was just goofing off with thies experiments but I learned some and had some fun.

I tried to leave my signature but it didn't work...
By the way... Does anybody know how to get sharpie markers off of a computer screen?

That's sounds fun. I was going to try and grow some in a pumpkin, but i wsn't sure how well it would fair, and I didn't have the time or material to give it a shot if it was setting me up for failure.

I get a kick out of finding random objects around the apartment and casing them -- coffee mugs, coin jars, bed posts, shelves, tobaccoo tins....

also anything that could be used as a case, becomes an experiment.im going to convert a very small childs inflatable swimming pool into a chamber using a clear trash can as the lid.

I also enjoy finding anything around the house to use for using as casing containers.. ice cream tubs, old candle containers.. anything.. For a substrate I have been wondering for awahile if using cookie dough would work, it has alot of natural ingrediants and the such, has anyone tryed it? I injected a twinky with some spores for fun but nothing came of it..

I tried rye black bread for substrate and did substitute the straw for cardboard in a worm castings bulk tek. Both got fucked.

I've had a cake colonize cardboard before and it actualy pinned and produced a small flush staright off the cardboard, I'm considering using cardboard as a substitute for vermicule in my next batch.

I?m sure my problem was the pasteurization of the cardboard/worm castings.

I too have tried various things but so far have not hard any really exciting news to report. My current experiments are to find a way to fruit without using a high humidity chamber. I live in a semi-arid location that gets temps of 40'C+ with little or no rain and yet natural, although small, shooms grow in cow shit here. The goal is to find a way to build a cake that I can put on my kitchen table and it will fruit there. Xmas is coming and it would be cool to give cakes that would produce either regular or magic mushrooms as a present to select friends. It may not happen this year but it sure would save a lot of space if I didn't need a fruiting chamber.... Anyone tried or have knowledge?

I'm going to try this, w/o doubt it is not the summum bonum of shroom growing...

I will go outside and dump some compost manure in a container, then dump an almost spent casing on top of that, followed by a layer of compost maure and straw, then topped with a layer of compost manure. I'll then sit the conrainer on something to keep it kinda warm...

My crazy experiment...
