Straight coir w o vermiculite
#21227203 - 02/04/15 06:26 PM (9 years, 3 months ago) |

I think ive run tubs w straight coir in the past but I cant remember.
I have a couple tubs I gotta spawn but vermiculite is out of season and would take a bit of travel to get.
Does running coir and gypsum without any verm cause any problem
Silly question maybe
Thanks!

Verm is to hold more moisture, I assume it will get drier quicker.

I've been wondering the same thing... Would adding a bit of manure help you think? It's not as airy as coir when wet.

Cool dude I think I'm just gunna go for it its only two tubs. Of course there's always the chance those two tubs might be AWESOME haha so I dont really like to play around.
I think ive grown on coir w o verm in the past but cant remember the outcome. But yea I only add 2 qts verm to a brick anyway so I think it'll be cool. Lets find out!

Youll be fine. I got 2 flushes without a dunk.I chucked em after that because my little bucket contamed after its first flush... and i already had a years worth lol. My Rh in my house is at 17% Might have to mist a bit more though since the verm holds water well.
If anything you'll get 75% what you normally do.

I would dunk after first flush, get a decent second and then it would stall. IMO mist after first flush and dunk for third.

Verm also adds nutrients.
Your grow will be fine. It might need to be dunked or misted heavily after first flush, like others have said.

I've rarely ever used verm and have been just peachy. I may try some in the coming months though I wanna know the field capacity of it ie: 1:2. 1:1. How much water does a quart of verm hold?
I' just wanna be able to plus the water I use and measure the verm and be done with it. I have my water:coir to an art and haven't "felt" for field capacity in coir for years. If nothing else I can usually be spot on by how dark it is.
