Over cooked grains?
    #21228863 - 02/05/15 12:12 AM (9 years, 11 months ago)

I made up a bunch of grain jars but accidentally left them in the pressure cooker over night. Anyway the texture of the grains in the jars seems good (it hasn't gone gluggy or anything). But the grains have turned a darkish brown color. Is it still possible to use them or have they just caramelized too much? Edit: they are wild bird seed and millet.

They dont look good to be honest...

now when you say you left them in overnight, do you mean it was on all night? or you turned it off after an hour and a half and let it cool overnight?

HOLY SHIT.... Did it run the PC dry? Seems it would almost have too being on that long. Definitely should be careful bro. As you surely already know, a PC becomes very dangerous when forgotten or left unattended. Would be nothing worse losing your home or having the fire dept. and/or police showing up due to an otherwise avoidable accident.

Yeah it was pretty stupid. I fell asleep and woke up at 6am panicking. Was very relieved to see everything was fine. Didn't even run dry. I think I must have a pretty decent pressure cooker or maybe just very lucky.

That's pretty scary. A friend's coffee maker blew up and sprayed the whole kitchen with hot coffee and pieces of metal (he'd just stepped out of the room fortunately). Hate to think what a PC could do.

I have tons of ways to inoculate, and if you do too then just noc it up and see what happens. It'd probably colonized if you g2g to it or use a few agar wedges, squirted a lot of LC, or shot in a bunch of MS solution. Will it colonize with 1 cc of MS? Probably not.

Well if it still had water in it, there is a chance those grains are usable.

Yeah, like I said, I'd use it.

If you only have one syringe to your name though, I'd just recook a new batch, just to be safe.

I weigh my jars and write it on them, so if there is any moisture loss for whatever reason I can add it back.

This is a grow on burnt wheat
