I was looking at this study involving charitable donations to churches, and it indicates that the larger our tax subsidies for charitable giving, the more religious people give to their churches, but interestingly, the less those people actually attend church. For every 1% of their income the religious give to a church, they're likely to attend church 1.1% less.
What does this tell us about human motivation?

If we could look into each others hearts, and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care. It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence. I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too. If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.

The Russian mafia has a penchant for building enormous churches with the money their killing and extortion brings them. They do this to buy a seat on the bus to heaven, of course.
So yeah, even god is corrupt.

There's the deep throat you've been looking for, obligation fulfilled.
I think your time may as well be considered a commodity that you're buying a stairway to heaven with too though, so in this instance, time is money. Really it goes back to that tax benefit of giving cash to the church - by giving money, instead of time, there's an incentive.... You're being offered a bargain.

Drug cartels in Mexico do the same shit, they're trying to create a positive public image, the benevolent social bandit, Robinhood and his merry men... I think they really want to win over their community, their loyalty... and likely most importantly, their silence. The Catholic churches are happy to take their money... they can "clean" it.
