Stalled Jars?
    #21225026 - 02/04/15 09:34 AM (9 years, 3 months ago)

Hello fellow mycology enthusiasts, I have some BRF jars that I think may be stalled.
I noc'd these up with a B+ syringe on 1/10 with 1cc per jar (they are half pints). Some of the jars are progressing nicely, with rhizomorphic mycelium growth, but some jars have had minimal growth and the mycelium looks kind of dry to me.

The mycelium is no longer as brilliant of a white, and the substrate has a defined line (crack?) around the mycelial growth. There seem to be some hyphal knots on some jars though. It looks almost as though the original mycelium died and new mycelium is growing over it? The new stuff is still bright white, thought. Any advice would be greatly appreciated since this is my first attempt!

those blobby lookin area's look kinda scary. maybe contam? you can still fruit if it doesn't change colors or smell funny when you birth. give it a go. wait it out.

That's what I was worried about. I read on another thread that you can check for odd smells by sniffing the inoculation holes in the lid, and there was no noticeable smell. The blobs are also bright white, so I'm not quite sure what to think. Could it be an issue of GE?

Those look like they could be contaminated. If they smell funky I'd say toss them. They might just be too dry for the mycelium

I just smelled them again, there is a very faint mushroom odor, nothing sweet or putrid.

ehhh, wait for birth to sniff, wait for colors to open/dump outside. If there are colors do not sniff :p. colors will indicate most molds. Smells will indicate most bacteria. you can still fruit wont be exciting.

Yeah. they don't look like mycelium now that I look at it closer. I've had bacteria that looked kinda similar to it.
