Where to fruit my oysters
    #21218768 - 02/02/15 10:26 PM (9 years, 3 months ago)

Well I have two bags of oyster on sawdust. They have consolidated a week or more. My SGFC is full and I don't want oyster spores in my house anyways.

Temps outside are mid to high 40's 32 or just above freezing at night. Can I just throw these under my porch and cut a few x's in them? Would it be better to put them in a garage where temps are in the 60's. I wasn't sure if there would be enough humidity in there.

I know RR said he has had oysters fruit in below freezing temps, but I am guessing that is not recommended.

It should be warming up this week.

Thanks.

They will fruit but slowly. Can you make a little cold frame for them? Perhapse let them pin indoors where it is a bit warmer then move them outside..?

I just went outside and i had one fruit coming out of my logs i inoculated last year and i am in montana which the warmest day the last few weeks has been mid 40s. They are cottonwood logs so they have some insulation but i was still suprised to see some fruit.
