Grafted plants stock is pupping..

Hey Enthobotanists! I have a Tricho stock with a Loph grafted to it that I had to re-graft at the start of this season because it started to go squishy at the bottom of the loph. I didn't expect much growth from it this year because I figured it would take a while for the graft to set.
Fortunately I was wrong and it has grown really well, probably by about 10 percent since I grafted it about 3 months ago and it also flowered for the first time.
But now the Trichocereus rootstock is sending out a pup. Im new to grafting so im not sure if this is an issue or not, but I figure that means the stock will send energy to the pup rather than the loph yes? If so do I need to do something to hinder that and keep the loph growing strong? Is the graft being rejected?
Also, does that look like the loph is about to pup? Or just bulging strangely?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Yes the loph does look about to pup You can either remove the trich pup now, or let it grow out a bit and remove and root it. It will slow the growth of the scion somewhat but not completely.

Weeow! Super excited for the loph pup. Okay, I'll probably wait it out for a while then root the cutting. Thanks for the response peace

I would let that pup grow big enough to cut off and root

How big is big enough for a cutting to be rooted?

6 inches or so. I'd personally scrape it off with your fingernail as pedro rootstock is cheap enough and the time spent growing the pup could be spent making that peyote scion larger.

Haha okay, a few different ideas here. I like the sound of the peyote scion getting more growth so I might have to cut the Tricho pup off.. Or I could graft a loph seedling to it? Is that possible/a good idea?

Well the action you shoudl take is the one that makes you more happy in the end. IF you would like to have more rootstock and dont mind to have that button grow reduced a litle, then wait for grow some inches, then cut it and root it. I have rooted pups as short as 1 inch, but as cacti uses the skin to make his food, the longer the cut is, the most quick it will grow.
If you let it grow as it is, it will grow faster because its feeding from all the green skin of the original stock, so in months you could have another stock to graft.
yes, you can also wait for it to get big enough to hold a button and graft another cacti on top of it. It would look awesome of course. The grow speed will be split beetween the 2 grafts this way.
So think of what you want to achieve
