This pic shows my dung straw sub cups.this method I put together for the folks that are interested in making a transition to bulk grows but don't yet have the experience or confidence to go at it full steam. Utilizing this method allows u to be able to practice mixing sub ingredients and fruiting procedure on a very small scale diminishing the amount of time and materials lost if ur culture takes the low road for some reason. The tek is fairly simple. Follow steps for straw and dung pasteurisation and colonization of ur grain of choice. Because of the small amount of substrate we r dealing with I prefer to use rye bcuz of the amount of moisture they can retain. Choose a cup with a good fitting screw cover and see through body. My cup of choice are these valente gelato cups I got when I was on my gelati kick last winter. Good stuff these are great because they are pliable unlike glass pints making removal a little more simple. I clean and prepare them as I would any tray u want to spawn with alchahol and paper towel. After The straw and dung are pastrzd I mix them with a 70/30 ratio straw to dung. Then I layer the cups beginning with my mix layer then a layer of grain in a one inch thick layering depth pattern.these are pint cups the amount of spawn per cup is about 3 tablespoons overall sprinkled between as many layers that fit. Becuz the cups are small and straw colonizes quite quickly u can compress the substrate a lot more tightly than any pf tek jar.I spare just enuff space at the top for a 3/8 inch caseing layer which isn't at all needed but I prefer to case and it gets u in the practice of casing parameters.I don't case until the cup is fully colonised at which point if u so choose they can be popped out of they're cup and dunk and rolled like a cake or leav in the cup complete a case run pin an fruit its up to you.

Interesting set up. Dont see people using hydroton rocks in a mono tpye FC too often. Looks to be working well. How many holes you have in the tub?

I wouldn't say that's terrible but this kind of thing has been done a lot already. There is really no difference between this and a tray other than the size of the container. Here is one I did with a pp5 pint a year ago.

Dude that is a big chubby u got goin in that cup. I hear you man about the redundancy in teks but this was my own little varition. I just felt like sharin it. And the mini mono I'm using has standard hole patterns I just taped a coupl up cuz I moved this one up into the living room to hang out with me and watch tv and the wood stove drys him out pretty quick and the hydroton helps keep the moisture longer for that reason but on that note I don't like using perlite for anything anymore is ugly messy and tuff to reuse so I bid it farewell many moons ago.preesh the feedback I live this site my phones been down for a couple days and I've missed u guys and thanks to griegen for puttin up my pic.glad to b back
