Shadow

Carl Jung states that everyone and I suppose everything has a shadow. Your shadow is the part of you that you do not like and often repress. Your shadow is projected on to the other people that you dispise, you see the qualities that you dislike in yourself in them. It is often the darkside of you. The only way to live with your shadow is to acknowledge it and accept it. Without your shadow you cannot be whole, no matter how hard you try to get rid of it, one cannot be without the other. You do not exist without your shadow, it does not exist with out you. So lets say you confront this shadow, one night. The next thing you know, you are the shadow, you are that dark part day in day out, you have seen yourself completely through, your eyes completely open. Do you still have a shadow, is your shadow now that first part of you, have you repressed what is best and pure....what if you are not projecting that image though, is it your shadow or not? or have you lost your shadow? Have you lost your shadow, even if you are whole?

i don't know WHAT you're on Gil but whatever it is i need some Jung was pretty cool in my book, way ahead of Freud for my own personal tastes, at least he got as far as dealing with the heart Chakra which is a whole lot more than i can say about many other(most) typical formally schooled psycholgists.......as far as your actual question(s) though, i duno i'd have to give them more thought(something of which i am incapable of right now) B4 responding

I think if you accept your shadow archetype and do not hide it, you can see it and act without foolishly letting your shadow archetype take over without you being oblivious to it and unknowing it.

Possibly this is analogous to the Castenedian concept of "wrestling with one's ally"?

Yes, or comming to realise that the shadow is a part of oneself, and to work withit instead of fighting it.

I'm a firm believer of this...since I can see it in myself often. Then again...I also believe in Bigfoot

Me too but that is pretty hard to do when the sun is out
Yeah but i figure as long as we are egocentric self centred beings most of us are always going to have that "darkside".......what was that William Blake quote, "If my devils were to leave then my angels would flee also"? That's not verbatim but it's pretty close

I once had a business management teacher tell me that there was an experiment or something where people were asked to list the things they despised in a coworker, and then it turned out that the things listed were the weaknesses of the people

yeah lol, it's much easier to concentrate on the character flaws in another human being than it is to turn that same investigative/analytical light inwards and do the same with one's own self........that is IF what i just said has anything even remotely to do with what you just said

The yin-yang comes to mind. A mental one. It's swirly and full of good and bad. Your bad makes your good.
Acid taught me that. It's obvious because it makes little sense.

I think thinking about shadows is fine so long as you don't mistake a conceptual tool with reality. We can take the idea of a shadow, develop its form, and read a lot about our self-perceptions and hidden assumptions. But tomorrow is a whole different day.

Hahaha funny thing Bom, but thats exactly what got me thinking about this....Paulie and I we talking about the shadow theory, and how it is the darkside and who better to bring out the darkside, but our dear friend acid, so I remark, well acid is my shadow, jokingly really, but when you think about it, it changed me and maybe us, I'm sure none of us went back to completely normal. Then we started in on well if it brought out the shadow, to the point of becoming the shadow, what happened to the original person, is that now the shadow? and no we were not stoned for this conversation.
