Obtaining proper moisture content in poo
    #2120633 - 11/18/03 05:28 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

1)How do y'all do it? After poo is pastuerized in pillowcase, it drains overnight. Then squeeze water out. Then what? Seems poo might be a little too wet after this stage.

2)Then, after you squeeze water out and poo is feild capacity moist, what do you guys use for an incubation container. I was thinking an oven bag with the top rolled down and then stapled shut and keep this in incubator.

Right after I pateurize I take the top of the pillow case and twist it tight . I keep twisting it until it squeezes water out and it reaches field capacity. Then place on rack and let cool overnight. It works like a dream.

Oh yeah, usually I use rubbermaid tubs and just close them. The spawn should produce enough heat for itself, provided the rubbermaid is kept at room temperature.

this is what smeagul does .
soak poo/strew at room temp .
squeeze as much water out as you can .
load into oven bag and tie off the top .
pasteurize in water bath .(160F for 2 hr.)
inoculate with spawn, and incubate at 80F .
