Yep. Perlite sits right at/above 4". They've been in FC for one week today. Worth mentioning that these are PE. I've read they can take a little longer to show themselves. If nothing is happening by week 2 then I'll be concerned, but everything appears to be healthy, I think.
Will I see pins forming, or will I just walk in one day and turtle heads will be peeping out?

Pins.
PE takes forever, you're in it for the long haul but the reward is worth the wait.

Sorry to keep bugging you guys, but I don't want to f-up this project...
First pics are how the aerial myc has progressed. Pic 1 is the one I posted five days ago, Pic 2 is what it looks like today.

Here are some others - Pic 1 is by far the worst, and Pic 2 seems to have aerial myc starting to grow out of the middle of the cake (all others are at bottom only).

From what ya'll said earlier, this seems to be caused by FAE problems - but I don't know why. I have 4" of perlite, 1/4" holes every 2" on all sides of tub (might not be every 2" on bottom, actually). Any suggestions to improve my FAE? Maybe disassemble, drill more holes on bottom, and add another inch of perlite, then put it all back together??

Mist the walls of your chamber and report back in 6 hours.
They should be totally dry. Really looks like colonization to me but we'll see.

Stop misting your cakes for a day or so. If it is saturated, it wont stimulate pins very well. And if it does, they are mostly mutants.
It also looks like they are still wanting to colonize, do you have holes on every side of your fruiting chamber?

yes - holes on all 6 sides.
If it's still wanting to colonize, does that mean I birthed them a little early? They were white (even on bottom of jar), and I let them consolidate for a week - but - mine never did look solid white like the ones i've seen on here. You can see birthday pics. They're the very first pics I posted on this thread.

Timing is not everything, they will still colonize in the FC. You just need to make sure they won't dry out because they might be in there for WAYYYYY longer than intended.
Mist till it glistens and stop, but stop misting for 1-2 days until the cake is no longer glistening. Then restart the cycle properly, no heavy misting, you want the water to evaporate off the cake so it stimulates a pinning trigger. This is the only reason to mist besides keeping them somewhat wet.

You guys are awesome,
Also it looks like they're trying to colonize what you have them on.
Switch to aluminum foil circles around the base cut down to a tiny bit bigger then the size of the cake so it doesn't touch perlite but you also switched media. Might help it realize it's no longer in the jar.

Haha taGyo... proud of yourself, are you? lol
Ok, I'll leave them alone. No misting for at least 24 hours. Do I still need to fan them, or just leave them the fuck alone?
I'll still post an update in 6 hours to see what you think about FAE.

Leave 'em alone. Only ever fan after misting.
I'd def change the foil and let it chill out for a bit and see what it does.
Sorry, Flabber always wins , it's a personal vendetta.

Fanning will help them dry out faster, if you have a proper built FC though, they will dry out in 2 days from that saturated point.
The only reason why I know is because I made the same mistakes :P
Mushrooms are not like... a math problem. You cant just set a time and start misting again, you need to adapt your technique to what your facing. Use your best judgement and post pictures on here when you think its dry enough.

I'll let you be the judge, but I think FAE is ok (maybe could be a little better but a non-issue). So I'm gonna let it ride for a day or two.
I think I had an epiphany... So correct me if I'm wrong, but it suddenly made sense to me tonight - myc colonizes, consolidates, then after birthing when you "starve"(aka let it get thirsty) it of moisture it will "pop out" (aka pin) because it's seeking moisture. Make sense? Is that why evaporation triggers pinning? Obviously you don't let it dehydrate completely, but is that the idea?

It just is a trigger because optimal conditions are being met, so it wants to produce mushrooms to keep spreading spores.

It's like because it's at home and it knows it will survive here it produces mushrooms to spread spores to continue to thrive. If it's in bad conditions it might pin in a last ditch effort as well.
It's like flowers that bloom to release pollen that grows into more flowers.

So it's been 24 hours since I last misted the cakes. I just checked on them and they are the slightest (and I do mean just barely) bit moist. I was thinking maybe mist before I go to bed tonight if they are dry to the touch - in another 8 hours or so? I might even wait until the morning - I just don't want them to dry out too much... Humidity is still sitting pretty in the FC at 99%.
You can see from the pic that the myc at the bottom of the cake has dried out some (compared to yesterday's pic).

Give them a bit more then start misting lightly again! Don't mist to mist, make sure the cakes need it before you go through with the action.
Otherwise, they are looking good, did a nice job with them!

That's a living organism. It is not a mushroom making machine. You're gardening right now. Listen to your plant, it will tell you more then we can. Mist when it's dry, not on a schedule.
Start another project to get your mind off this.
