How do you entertain your pets?

So I had two dogs, one was the daughter of the other. In July 2013 the mom died. It was a very traumatic event for the whole family, as well as for her daughter who was sitting near the door waiting for about two months (she wasn't present when her mother died). Thing is now that I think the younger dog is very bored and miserable. When no one is home they could play/entertain themselves, but now she is alone and only thing she can do is sleep. Also, when everyone is home she seeks for attention, and we can't really do much to entertain her. She has a few bones to chew, but that's all.
How should I entertain her? How do you entertain your pets?

You don't "entertain" dogs..
So, when everybody is home, not 1 person in the house can give the dog attention?
I have 3 kids.. 1 1/2 and 2 8 year olds and my wife has cancer. I still find at least an hour a day to go on a walk or a nice bike ride.
It really sounds like you are not even trying and know NOTHING about dogs.
Dogs carry out the emotions of their owners. YOU are perpetuating your dogs sadness over the loss of her mother. Dogs don't stay miserable.
Get a bike and go out for 20 min a day, its the least you can do for such an intelligent creature instead of making up all these fucking piss poor excuses to why you are depressed and cant properly take care of your dog.
While your at it, read something about dogs.. Even knowing a small amount if information about how to interact with your pet can be beneficial.

Well I guess you start by getting to know her. Different dogs like different things. It is really sad to leave them in all day, so if you are in a position where you have to do that you really should make it up to them by setting aside part of your day for them. Trust me, I know that can be hard sometimes, especially when you are tired, but it will be 100% worth it if you keep it up for both of you.
Take her out for an hour when you get home every day. If you let your dog sniff and wander where they like, and give them some verbal support, I guarantee she will be happy, and you will get home and feel good. Giving them food and toys is good, especially as a training tool, but mostly they just want to spend time with you exploring the world.
What breed of dog is it?

A dogs just like a small kid dude. You gotta give it love and attention constantly. You cant neglect it and forget about it, especially when it just lost the only other dog it was close to. These animals form strong bonds man. Its no surprise its acting really depressed. You guys gotta start paying attention to her/him. Thats really all it wants. Talk to it, play with it, teach it things. Dogs are incredible learners. Just be there for it, don't cast it to the side. Dogs feel the same emotions you do.

This guy is much nicer than me.
After working with pitbull rescue groups for 3 years and working in a over crowded pet hotel for 5.. These type of people just flat out disgust me now, no patience for the people who refuse to use google to improve their lives before a question is asked. Dog is honestly better off living with another family if you don't change your attitude towards it.

You sound really mad. Have I ever said I'm depressed? That I don't walk with the dog? Actually all I asked is ideas about how people play with and entertain their pets. Relax.

She is a Cane Corso. And yeah, I take her out for about 30-40 minutes every time, until she doesn't start heading home.

We pay attention to her, but all I can do is basically pet it, hug it and talk to her, which basically what I do.

Its a dog, play games with it. Tug a war, catch, tricks, all that shit. You're not gonna have an awesome dog if all you do is pet it and baby talk to it.

Cool thats the first I've heard of Cane Corsos. They're pretty but kinda got a sad look from the pictures I see maybe you are just projecting.
I mean I'm sure you wouldn't listen to these nuts. If you're giving your dog a good home you are doing good. They are not like children, and once they get into a routine they tend to just appreciate what they have. I'm sure you're doing ok.
I think walks are always #1. After that my dog likes tug-of-war and playing chase. Some training guides will tell you not to play games like that with dogs, but they really seem to like it so I like to indulge them when I can. TBH I have a lot of fun with it myself.

I guess I will just keep the current routine and maybe have longer walks and play games with her. We usually walk until she doesn't start heading home.

Get a ferret. ferrets and dogs love to play together. Though at first you gotta make sure the dog don't think the ferret is a chew toy and vice versa.

I water them, weed them, and fertilize them. Sometimes I also re plant them.

Mostly I use a granular organic rose and flower fertilizer but sometimes I use a liquid organic bloom booster too.
