Bulk Question
    #2120541 - 11/18/03 06:53 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

My pit bulls are getting ready to do some bulk. They have bulk experience and normally go a layer of poo/straw then spawn then another layer of poo/straw then a layer of poo. However this time, they don't have enough poo to do the final layer. They know straw is highly succeptible to contam. Is it even worth going ahead with. They have some premium steer manure in the backyard (purchased from a local feed store). Would this be an acceptable substitute?

You don't have to have the layers.

The layers have worked well for my pits, so thay'd like to stick with them. They are mainly concerned about the straw being exposed. They have heard that straw contams really easy.

And I've heard that pasturized straw is fairly contam resistant.

Read it here

:edit: replaced "highly" with "fairly".

The straw was mixed in with poo, then pasteurized.

P.S. that doesn't say "highly resisitant" to contam's, it says "fairly resistant to contams".

So unless you rub your straw on the ground or something it shouldn't contam.

Damn, I let my dog shit on the floor then threw the straw down and then wallowed in it.  Like the dirty little pig fucker that I am.  Guess my pits shouldn't use it then!  :smirk:

the troll that lives under the bridge told me, that he has used straw from his bed, and it worked fine as long as it was properly pasteurized .

if you hold back a little spawn for a thin layer over the top, it helps it to colonize faster .
