are FP hepa filters worth the price and expensive shipping?
    #21203065 - 01/30/15 03:39 PM (9 years, 3 months ago)

Hi everyone,

First time posting, definitely not my first time reading here.

I've been doing a lot of research regarding which HEPA filter to purchase.

Ideally, I want a 6" depth, to preserve space, and a 24"x24" filter area. FP has a nice looking filter, but they want $315 shipped! With tax, that's a lot when compared with the price of the filter.

I've seen other filter companies offering less shipping, and FP said they wouldn't budge at all on the price (I've been trying to do business with them, but a Series I shipped was $750! and the 24x24x5-7/8in hood isn't much cheaper to ship (which makes me hesitant, because it isn't nearly the area of the entire assembled hood, or the weight). I like their customer service otherwise, they seem nice and professional.

Is it worth it? I can't find many 24"x24"x~6" filters for a decent price, I'm just having a hard time accepting the shipping costs cause it makes me feel like I'm getting screwed. I'm in Mass, so Washington is quite a distance.

Any advice or suggestions? They seem really nice, and I've heard great things about them, but $90 extra for shipping and tax just seems brutal.

Best,
KJ

I've seen a few used for sale on amazon and other sites, might be worth looking into before buying a whole new one. If used and alot cheaper, but still working

Any other suggestions of 6" versus 12" and whether the FP filter is really worth paying the extra shipping for?

I have looked around at the availability of metal / high quality wood framed 6" depth filters, and they simply are not easily available (and I am looking to get this done sooner than later).

I have scoured eBay, amazon, google shopping, etc. None of the hoods meet a 2'x2' requirement, with at least 0.8" of static pressure and 99.97+% efficiency at 3 micron, while having a 6 inch depth (all are 10"+).

So, I'm going to go with the fungi perfecti. I'll post a review on it after I receive it and have built the hood.
