CNN.com: "Shroomery - Best Mycological Resource on Net?"

The Shroomery: No Longer Plagued by Inane Discussion by Dr. HB, M.D., hired writer for CNN.com
The Shroomery, a website that 'supports the spread of truthful information about psychedelic mushrooms', has long been in a vicious battle with competing sites on the internet. Though the main site, www.shroomery.org, has a plethora of information related to mycology (psychedelic mushrooms in particular), there is a link to a subdivision of the shroomery called the BB (or: Bulletin Boards). Here, one can interact with other people (known as "shroomerites") in moderated and administrated discussion, from how to grow mushrooms to even politics.
The Shroomery Administration has recently debated about the possible temporary (or permanent) shutdown of one of the most popular forums on the BB, widely known as OTD, for Off-Topic Discussion. Here, users can discuss anything they want within reasonable boundaries, generally not pertaining to anything mycological, and more often than not containing what the administration considers a 'waste of bandwith'.
Through the Off-Topic forum, many users became daily acquaintances, greeting each other each morning with a friendly 'Good Morning' followed by a sexually-explicit picture in order to cheer the moods of those who sit in a cubicle all day. Many of these users met each other in real life through "gatherings", often held in nature to get away from the bustle of city life. OTD provided a similar escape for these users, letting them vent their anger or share whatever they feel is worth sharing.
However, the administration decided that this free forum was a waste of bandwith, as earlier stated, holding The Shroomery back from the title of "Best Mycological Resource on the Net", a highly prestigious award meant to higher the self-esteem of those who own the site. The 'waste of bandwith' is only one of many reasons the administration decided to destroy this once great community of friends, whom I have discussed with.
Through speaking to many of the frequenting members, I have come to my own conclusions that with OTD offline, nobody is happy except those in charge who got their way because they HAVE the power to do whatever they want. Though many sites have proclaimed in the recent 24 hours since the attack that the Shroomery is now "The Best Mycological Resource on the Internet", the members who once made the great community what it was now are left to anger towards the administration.
I spoke with one member who had joined the community in 2000 (and wishes to remain anonymous), and he said "The administration is nothing but a totalitarian, self-righteous regime. They don't understand that the COMMUNITY is what makes this place what it is. What good is a country with no inhabitants and a bunch of politicians running around?"
Though a message that is now embedded in the forum by an administrator says that this is only a test, many former members now already have hatred for The Shroomery, and the effects, they say, will not fade. According to another member, who joined fairly recently but became a full-time member, "The Shroomery is dead to me now."
