Natural pesticide brew project
    #21194322 - 01/28/15 10:19 PM (9 years, 3 months ago)

So I have been noticing more and ore bugs in my tropical greenhouse, I have learned salvia is loved by aphids and white flies. Anyways I was spraying them with some neem oil but I never did it regular enough for it to work. I just started brewing a pesticide tea using garlic and onion as the base, so far I have also added a bit of cayenne pepper and salt. I plan on adding a fair amount of sever essential oils too it as well such as several citrus and maybe a few others. I am planning on boiling it most of tonight then letting it sit til morning where I will add the oils. Any thoughts? I was thinking about adding a pinch of tobacco if I can find it and maybe some peppers too.

What have you used as a natural pesticide?

Compost tea does amazingly well as a natural pest deterrent. It doesn't kill them, though.

Tea made from compost sounds intense  I was going to try some microbe culture mixes as well potentially. What about the compost tea deters pests? I would think it would do the opposite if anything  maybe my compost is just gross  I think thi garlic onion mix with essential oils should more than do the trick. I am considering before and after photos as it is pretty damn bad.

Plants love it and in my experience their leafs become thick, glossy and protective. I don't know what causes pests to stay away, maybe it's just the health of the plants.

My mix is aerated with a air stone and pump in a 5 gallon bucket. I fill it up with about 4 gallons of water and a hand full of compost.
I use yard clippings, dead leaves and vegetable matter from the house in my compost, and I turn it over week, some times twice a week. It takes about 3 months for my compost pile to be ready for use.

Yeah I can imagine how plants would love a tea made from compost, I may have to try that. I have already been feeding most of my plants pretty heavily though, just using natural fertilizer concentrates. There are so many possibilities. I need to get a beneficial microbe colony going, or buy a pre mixed one

Check out rosemary oil! I have been preachinig rosemary oil for a little while now since I read about it and tried it. Stuff works awesome and smells waaaay better than neem.

One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree.
'Which road do I take?' she asked.
'Where do you want to go?' was his response.
'I don't know', Alice answered.
'Then', said the cat, 'it doesn't matter.'
