Question on sterile printing
    #21156773 - 01/21/15 12:35 PM (9 years, 3 months ago)

So, I've been perusing the various teks out there and have a general idea of how to get a sterile spore print but there's one thing that I couldn't find out. How do you keep the cap sterile? I can keep the printing medium sterile easy enough, but when it comes to moving a cap which has already been exposed to the elements from a shotgun terrarium how is a sterile print possible? There's something I'm missing.

There's no such thing as a sterile print. Its a misnomer.

If a print was sterile then it wouldn't be viable. The best you can do is to print aseptically. There will pretty much always be some contamination in a spore print. However... you can minimize that risk as much as possible by growing all the way to maturity invitro. And then print in front of a flow hood.

Some people say that a cap grown in vitro could be considered sterile, but I bet there is still some nasties hiding in it.

Wildernessjunkie got the response.
