Wild Mutant Mushrooms - SWFL -

Photography credit to - imposiblefungonaut -

These photos were taken last summer, and sadly, the mushrooms are rotting away in an evidence bag.

Sterile P. cubensis with intense bluing:

Sterile P. cubensis with a semi-split stipe:

P. cubensis with completely split stipe:

Some odd-looking Pan. cyanescens that did, in fact, bruise blue:

Nice!

Your last photo is a great example of why microscopy is needed to accurately identify species within the Copelandia subgenus, as it looks very different in appearance from what would typically be called Panaeolus cyanescens. Not all Copelandia are Panaeolus cyanescens and I think these have potential to be something similar but not as typical. :paradissunsmall:

Thanks! :awesome:

I'm definitely keeping this sort of thing in mind this year. I foresee many Gymnopilus, and prints/samples to go with them as well!
I wanted to help some shroomerites out with possible G. Cyanopalmicola samples, but I never got around to sending them. Alan asked me for Poronia samples last year too! It would have been cool to see the results from those studies.

Going camping tomorrow, I'll be pack with photos!
Peace out :sunny:

Is Panaeolus bisporus a possibility?

More likely than Panaeolus cyanescens. I've seen these quite a few times, they so cool. :smile2:

Why are the mushrooms rotting away in an evidence bag?

You should always use paper bags for evidence.

Or a tackle box.

I think he got into some kind of legal trouble, maybe.

Tackle box is a great idea!! Didn't think of that.
I originally had them in a tyvek envelope, in my backpack... but:

Yup.

My friend and I were arrested and charged for "disturbing wildlife in a county preserve". We spent the night in jail and the judge told us we could pay 50 bucks and leave that day. With the booking fee, etc, it came out to about $90 total.

What a joke, especially since the cops were so convinced they were busting us for drug offenses. They seriously told my girlfriends parents I was "arrested for SMOKING mushrooms in a field with a girl". My friend is a male. :laugh2:

Good thing I told her where I was going and with who, she knew right away the cops at her door were just being assholes.

Welcome to Florida, haha :sunny:
Just glad they put them in a plastic bag and forgot about them.

My brother and his buddies live down there and were busted by a nature ranger. They had some already and he made them stomp them out then took a photo of them for the other rangers and wrote a citation of 150$ for each of them to pay. That was all that happened.

LOL
"I'm here to protect nature. STOMP ON THAT NATURE OR I'LL CALL THE POLICE!"

I always wonder what would happen if someone was encountered with a bouquet of wildflowers.
Would they have been arrested or cited $150?

The officers that stopped us THREW A LOLLIPOP ON THE GROUND during the search.
They walked us away in cuffs and I said "Isn't that littering?".
The cop replied "Isn't that being a smartass?" while reluctantly picking it up.

I'm sure most people who are interested in picking wild mushrooms respect the land they're on.
They think we're such horrible people but to whom do we mean harm!?
