For anyone who's used LED Lights, can you tell me how much of a diffrence it makes when growing?

It probably doesn't make that much of a difference. As far as I know fungus doesn't get any nutrients from the sun, in a natural condition.

All they need is some kind of light to tell the micro programming which direction to grow in.

I wonder, if you grew mushroom using a strobe light, maybe it would make them really psycodellic..

I believe blue light has been shown to significantly accelerate fruiting growth. No exp. with led's but I saw this kick arse pic on earthestongue.com of some Hawaaians under some blue LED's. Righteous!

I was planning on having a fried run some tests with normal lights and LED lights to see if there is any diffrence, but from other sources I hear it will help out alot. (btw, LEDS can get expensive!)

Is an LED better than a blue christmas light? Is either better than flourescent?

expensive...leds....not really. a coule leds would easily be able to light up a good size terranium and they usually go for under 2 dollars a piece. You would also save on electricity in the longrun if that is at all an issue. I have always heard that blue spectral floros are the best. Lighting is a minute concern when growing shrooms. Its like saying what brand of perlite should I use.

They sell LED lights there, but LED's are mainly used for car lights, so they are pretty bright intense lights. But earthstongue.com will soon be selling LED's that are perfect for cultivation.

so is there any difference between flourescent and LED? it really shouldnt matter considering the fruits only use light as a guide, right?

I'm not sure, thats why hes gonna test it, some people have been saying LED actualy imrpove them becuase blue lighted spectrum light promotes more growth.

LED = L Electric Diode (not sure what L is) and there fore is not the same as flourecant

Really guys, honestly chances are, that the color of the light is irrelevent. The only thing I could see colored or trippy lights doing for the mushrooms, is maybe giving them an extra something from what ever the hell its giving off, maybe leds give mushrooms cancer! lol im just joking.

I'm going to just use a couple XMAS lights, All I require is enough light to tell mushies which way is up, all though completely dark mushroom growth is very very very neat !

Maybe if you had a series of lights, computer timed which ones go on when and such, you could manipulate the growth of the mushroom by constently changing the direction that is up. Maybe we could grow coiled mushrooms  Some Techy rich guy should try this and let us know how it goes !

Christmas lights would most likely work just as well and be alot cheaper.. but looking at the pic of hawaiians on ET the LED makes them look realy neat. They said they used 128 for that.
