Trying to fix trich problem
    #21174190 - 01/25/15 10:12 AM (9 years, 3 months ago)

I've had trich problems on and off the last 10 - 15 grows. The problem has to be coming from the spawn even though I've been following the teks to the t, they usually trich out before first flush which shows it's already been feeding on a nutritional substance or mu grain spawn. My question is what causes trich in spawn is it moisture content or what?

Contaminated inoculant and botched g2gs are probably the most common causes of Trich contaminated spawn.

If your spawn is properly sterilized and is still getting trich then it's being put into your spawn jar either by improper sterile technique(bad g2g tech or not flaming the needle, etc.), failed gas exchange filter(loose poly, for example), or through dirty inoculant. Those are the main 3 reasons if your jar is sterilized correctly: 1) dirty inoculant 2) failed GE filter 3) poor sterile technique.

I use the innoculant on pf cakes and it's just fine and I use two filters polyfil and Tyvek at one time and I have good sterile technique seeing as how my agar work and of cakes are flawless. So moisture content causing bacteria has nothing to so with trich?

Why would bacteria cause trich?

No need to apologize. Bacteria and trich don't cause one another directly or even indirectly. At least not in a grain spawn jar.

Could be your substrate material also.

If the grains aren't fully colonized because of the bacteria or for any other reason they're more vulnerable to molds after spawning.

Coir use bucket tek might start properly pasturizing just to insure success. As for the bacteria causing slow colonization or not colonizing at all which in return could cause trich or other molds is why I asked about bacteria I suspect this to be my problem. I've done docs wbs tek and foomans wbs tek and have had success with both. There have been times when I've followed the tek to the t and the jars bird seed will become like sludge as it's colonizing and sometimes corners will not be colonized and the tubs will trich even if it is fully colonized the tubs still trich.
