Is there anyone here who uses say google maps or anything else in their record keeping of where you have found certain species? Do most of you keep records of every picking trip? I usually take pictures of the mushrooms top and bottom and the area in general before i pick anything, then i pick them take a couple pictures of the bottom immediately. when i get home i do a small write up of the texture and anything else i observed, and a note about where i picked them and i organize all the pictures and write ups into folders sorted by date and then by mushroom. I would like to start attatching these to a google map or something of the area so i could return reliably to certain places.
Any input on your folks' methods of record keeping would be helpful in helping me get a good system down.

If I write down anything it's in a notebook of what species I found, on what I found it, the time of the year, and where I found it. Most of my finds are in a woods that belongs to my family so my family and I know the woods extremely well so a few key features noted are more than enough to know exactly where to go if I don't simply remember it.
If I go somewhere new or to a new part of a park I use an app called Maverick. I start it when I get out of my car and it tracks exactly where you walk with a colored line. When you find something worth noting you can put a marker on the map and a description of what you found and even take a picture for it. I have used this with great success for various mushrooms. If you wanted you could have the description of the app correspond with a digital/notebook description of the mushroom/area/time whatever and include more pictures.

Like Byrain says, MO is convenient. Other than that I personally have a tendency for memorizing locations pretty much to the exact spot, meaning I'll always return to check and thus keep it in mind.

Do you guys know if there is a function on MO that is like a pesonal "notes" section, or something for each observation? I would like to write down coordinates on a few of my observations, without others seeing it, etc. I'd rather have it all on MO if that is possible.

No, they don't have that feature.
I just put the coordinates into my observations. No one ever checks MO, notices the coordinates and shows up at my spots.
