ok, i found this mushroom in my yard. it is 5 sided, salmon pink, and there is no cap per say. it looks like the spores come from the top of the mushroom. so, basically, it is a 4-5", five sided, salmon pink spear. or........for the reason for the title....it looks kinda like a dog penis.

I have seen these in Seattle and in rotted hay stacks. The smaller ones are dog stinkhorns as noted above

Nice photo. I have a great story to tell about these. Dr. Don Hemmis, co-author of the book mushrooms of hawaii was on Mauna Kea with his wife and childrena dn found a whole collony of them. He put them in a box int he back of his station wagon and after aabout five minutes driving his wife made him get out of the car with the box and left him to hitch-hike back down the volcano to their home in Hilo.

i saw a pic of dog stinkhorns.....that isnt it. my mushrooms stem isnt round. it has 5 distinct sides

What is amazing is that one hundred plus people including myself actually clicked on the link called "dog penis." What if it really was a picture of a dog penis? Would you still have looked?

i find that "naked lady cavorting with seals beneith giant stinky penis fungi" postcard disturbing in a "why didd't I think of that" sorta way.

Is he from Switzerland? It's a Dutch name. Actually, "stijve" would translate to "hard-on" in English :laugh:
