Mp3 player w/ expandable memory
    #21171068 - 01/24/15 01:11 PM (9 years, 3 months ago)

Hey guys, I'm looking for a decent mp3 player that will accept the use of a 64Gb micro sd card. My ipod classic is slowly dying and I need something portable to replace it (aka large LCD screen might be a deal breaker. I want to be able to use it in my car) It doesn't need to play videos or run apps, it just needs to have decent sound quality. Tech specs are appreciated if you're so inclined to post them  :nerd:

Edit: Forgot to mention my budget. I'm trying to keep it cheap, I dont think I want to spend more than say $150-200

You can get a 4 gig one at the dollar store plus a mini usb power lighter adapter And the casset adapter thing if your car has a cassette player for less than 50 bucks And they take SD cards and the micro will work if you have the adapter for it. Don't know about new cars but you can probably find a usb cord that will work in the headphone jack that will plug into the cars usb.

My car stereo has an aux jack, and I already have the sd card so all I really need is a decent player with a lots 'o memory that wont break the bank.

And I was looking into cowon players actually

This might sound ridiculous, but you could easily just use an old phone strictly as an mp3 player. Just because a phone's obsolete as a phone doesn't mean it isn't useful for other applications. Old school BlackBerry phones are less than $50 (some even around $10). I'm not sure which will support memory up to 64gigs so you'd have to do some research a bit, but I'm sure you could easily find something for under $50.

Just a thought. Cheers!

A human being is part of a whole, called by us, the "Universe", a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

Only expandable by 32GB, but the compatibility is amazing. A must-have for audiophiles imo http://www.sandisk.com/products/music-video-players/clip-zip/

I bought a 25$ brand GPX player at the dollar store and a 5$ lighter charger  adapter and one of those cassete looking things that plug into the head phone jack worked awesome in my car and at work we would just run it through a Boom box on a full charge it would play for about 5 hours  but my cell phone charger was also micro usb so I never really ran the battery down and it took standard SD cards. So yeah you're golden for cheap. Total cost was like 35 36 $ Not counting an SD card Can't beat that with a stick. :awedance:

While I did think about using a phone, Blackberry never occured to me as an option. I'll be sure to look into that and the Gpx player. I'm pretty broke at the moment, so it gives me time to think about what I want to do. That and my ipod isn't quite dead yet

Update: I didn't have to look far to see that I'd hate anything that Gpx makes, at least mp3 wise. I'm somewhat specific about these things, being the nerd that I am. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Hey mate, have you looked into the Sandisk mp3 players? The Clip is a great player in the cheap range. If you are willing to spend a little more, the Fuze might be a better option. Don't get the current model, they're crap, the older model is a top quality player though, and i can tell you thet first hand. I have one, i have a 64gb micro card in it and it is a pleasure to use.

I know its well out of your budget, but the best thing you could get would be a non-Apple smartphone. Smartphones are pretty much awesome, and some non-Apple ones allow you to put in micro SD cards.

Any MP3 player that doesn't have buttons sucks in my opinion.

No, i just don't think that all innovations are beneficial. Some are only added because there are a lot of people that will buy something for simply being shiny and new.
Touch screens have there place in tech, but on mp3 players they're just a gimmick and actually ruin the practicality. If you're going to use a touch screen you may as well use your phone.
I change songs with my player from my pocket without looking at it. I have an iphone too which i use an emergency player. I can't do that with it.
