That's cynical as fuck. It's because I didn't wait for full colonization. Regardless, was contaminated with nerospora beforehand, due to my failure to sterilize the needle. I was afraid of melting the syringe.
Also I'm sure it didn't help that it tipped over in the sgfc and was covered in perlite..

I got lucky at least three times then, dude.

Moon relax bro,
No one is personally attacking you.
We're all just trying to help. If you're getting good results and colonized cakes then great.

(less any other ingredients like verm) wbr might last a little as the mycelium has to work through it a little more to deplete it. I knew a guy who did cakes where he left some of the rice kinda chunky instead of powdering it all to get more flushes. It ended up contaming tho.
I may do my next cake using WBR and BRF, just for the hell of it.

I would like to see that experiment finished. I would just make sure the rice grains are fully hydrated tho.

Sorry, I know, it just was interpreted as rather presumptuous. I too want good results, so that way people can maybe one day utilize my methods.
Considering that I don't need FAE for the mycelium growth, this may work wonders. Will keep everyone updated.

Just never heard of coffee as a filter. Glad it's working for you though, if you keep experimenting you could introduce a no-verm tek,

I was just going to cook and sterilize it similar to the cakes in this thread. Half a cup of rice, one and one tenths cup of water, bring to boil on stove top, reduce to simmer and cover the pot eight tenths of the way.

Haha, that would be nice. I'd call it the budget-tek or ghetto-tek or something along those lines. It's sad I couldn't find a smaller bad of vermiculite. They (Hope Depot) only had the XL bag and after purchasing the perlite, I was short on funds.

I know the feels mayne,
Googe Hydroponics store in your area. They normally have the good stuff for cheap. I used to go to Home Depot and Petco until I found one a town over that sells bricks of coir for like 3 bucks and big bags of verm for 7

Cool man. I'm probably gonna play around with some of that "boil-in-bag" rice since its already been heat treated. (looks almost like rice krispies but still hard like rice) Blackout has been talking about it in some of his stuff.

Kizzle was throwing around pre-heated corn. Shit's getting real in the myco world.

If I go into a hydroponics store I imagine the same thing will happen. I'll see some liquid nutrients on sale and forget the vermiculite, lol Will keep that in mind though, thanks for the recommendation.

Why would heat treating it make a difference if you plan to cook and sterilize it either way?

Look forward to seeing your grows,

Btw, I walked in to Target to get some new jars and came out with a blender, some blades, jars and a new bin for LI and stupid shit. My bank account is not happy with me

Where he was linking it was Blackdusts' No PC tek so there heat-treated corn would help since he's not going the sterilization route.

Yeah my pc is missing the gauge. Kinda crucial. So I was gonna play around with the heat treated rice with some agar added to see if it will contam (alot at least).

I didn't use a pressure cooker for these set of cakes, I'm sure you could manage without one.

It's been five days since my last update, and the mycelium growth is seemingly not making much progress.. Maybe a few millimeters of growth at best. Is it consolidating, or is my substrate drying out?

Draw a line with a sharpie and watch growth.
Is it still colonizing?
