Pe is best harvested once a succession of bumps appear on the stipe below the cap.

Once the herpes appear on the penis envy its good to harvest.

I've always found humor in that.

Yeah wrinkly stems under the caps are a good indicator. So is the caps color. It will be fairly pail yellow or orange when they are ready. The center of the cap will start to darken again when they have gone a bit too long.

A small percentage of fruits may not develop significant bumps, if they are firm (to a gentle squeeze) and then you notice them getting softer a day later, I'd pick them.  Softness is a sign they are done growing.  (Anyone else found this to be the case?)

I've got my first AA+ pins in bottles now and they look really nice. Fruits with leucism are very neat looking. The biggest so far are growing from the glass and not the substrate.

This tek is working great with edibles for me! Used hardwood fuel pellets in the mix with some small wood chips for these woodlovers. I have some kings also that I put outside to pin. These are Hyphaloma sublateritium and Pleurotus ostreatus grocery store clones.

Giving this a go after dealing with repeated incidents with cobweb and trich with cakes and monotubs, I wanted to eliminate the spawning over to pasteurized coir step, and this seems superior and easier anyways... got my supply list down, going shopping tomorrow.  Thanks for the Tek, I'll likely throw a log up once I get all the materials.

edit -  By the way, I like your mini-sterile work area... I have been considering something similar for my basement as I just keep getting fisted by contamination, which was not the case in past grows, had excellent rates before.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did the glad quarts cost you, seem to run a pretty penny for those, wondering if I wouldn't be better off with pint masons, or the largest I can find without a PITA choke at the top, lol.. have 12x fully colonized WBS jars of PE6 right now and not the slightest clue of what to do with them with all the contamination I am seeing, scared to spawn anything.  Have a great PE6 LC for this tek thats been culturing for a month, can't wait

/me crosses fingers on no contam...

Good stuff

Ziploc twist and loc containers are $2.57 usd per 2 pack of quarts which makes them a little more expensive than glass but not much.

these are pics of the same bottle taken 24 hours apart and are now 3 days old. sorry about the difference inpicture quality, yesterday it was bright and sunny and today it's wet and gloomy

A buck fifty per, I was looking at the wrong thing on amazon (glad products) so that is good news, lol.. pint jars were lookin' good for a moment there.  Ones I was looking at were like 13$ per, for 28oz.. was like uhmm...

No worries on quality I deal with lighting changes a lot myself.

Plan on using this SITR lc for this tek, transferring to larger lc jars upon getting SFD's and such for the lids.

Definitely looks different than anything I've ever attempted before, reminds me of some "mystery mix cakes" I made back in the day when I was experimenting with the pf-tek.  Much more promise though, lol.

Thanks for letting me know on the gladware :plur:

6 days from inoc-                      3 days from inoc-                2 days from inoc.

With the way these pe have been growing the last couple days, I'm sorta dissapointed in myself for picking those other ones too early. :shrug:You live and you learn, I guess.

The pint of AA+ was added in later. The other PP5s all have thick, cloudy myc rising above the casing and it's giving me cause for concern that it's bacteria or something.

I zoomed in on the rim of that PP5. Is that trich? Shit, you can see it in the casing too. I'm assuming they're all fucked.

Man, that sucks. I left them in that tub without even really opening it much and they still got all fucked.

:frown:

Going to dump them all today.

LI. There was no green during colonization or consolidation and they smelled and looked fine after. Bah, what a waste!

It looks more like penicillium than trich. Those spores are tiny and its very easily missed in culture as it tends to mesh right in the cube myc. I woukd look very close at any plates you intend to make LI with. Also you might consider keeping colonizing jars and filtered PP5 in a tote while colonizing to keep sporeloads on the filter low. I do this myself lots as penicillium is pretty high in my house.

I'll have to research penicillium and see what's up with it and how to spot it on plates first. I'll definitely start colonizing them in totes or something since apparently my grow room is a cesspool for bad shit floating around.

Either way, I guess I'll need to toss them. RR says penicillium spores are so small they can travel through the filters. So I guess I need to seriously limit any open-air exposure to bottles.

Penicillium is a bitch. Lots of times it will work its way through a filter and infect the top grains that colonized slow. I have gotten away with scraping them off and spawning but its a terrible practice
Its a relatively non agressive mold, not parasitic so you can fruit through it of course but it ups the sporeload big time.

Edit: my first time seeing mold invitro was courtesy of it. I believe it had infected the culture,  meshed in with the myc and I never saw it. Its slightly greyer than cube myc and a little disorganised. When meshed in, look for a spot of weak cube growth where the myc is not thick and slightly tangled.

Interesting. I'm not sure if I'll toss them our keep them in there. I'm considering tossing the one with green/blue showing and putting the rest in a smaller tote, rinsing and reusing the 66 they're in now. Right now I'm kind of low on fruits so I'd love to be able to fruit these and then toss them outside.

Thanks for the tips on spotting it. I'm going to start researching more molds/bac soon since my room is very dirty. It's an extremely old house that stays dusty as fuck. Going to steam clean very soon and run my HEPA in there for a few days after.

I hear ya on older dirty houses. I am dealing with my fruiting space right now and its a big job. There are of course lots of little things you can do but they will never be as good as tearing rugs out and lining the place in plastic like Dexter.
