Cobweb Mold on seeds before storage.
    #21167832 - 01/23/15 03:51 PM (9 years, 3 months ago)

Hey guys I just harvested some pepper seeds and about half had cobweb mold growing inside around the seeds so I just tossed those in a pan of their own away from the healthy ones. I was wandering if I could soak the molded seeds in peroxide for a lil while then let them dry and put them in storage after all that? Would that help and make them healthy and viable for next years grow?

probably not the answer you wanted, but if i find any moldy chilli pods, i just toss those and only save seed from the good ones.

I have never tried to save seeds from questionable ones, so im probably little help.

I make ristras with the chilli I let go red, but my climate is very conducive to drying them out without much problem.

Yea I was hoping to collect more seeds than I was able to get from the good pods. I was only able to get a small amount of non contaminated seeds. So I guess the best bet would be just to toss them out.

the best bet, maybe

you might be able to clean them and then attempt to germinate them.

If you have the space, you could try. I just wouldnt waste my windowsil, which is valuable realestate around here

make sure they dry all the way, they cant grow mold with no water content in them

Yeah, I was gonna kinda mention the same thing. Do an experiment! If you have the room, that is. I am curious to see if it is possible...

One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree.
'Which road do I take?' she asked.
'Where do you want to go?' was his response.
'I don't know', Alice answered.
'Then', said the cat, 'it doesn't matter.'

Yea I think that's what I'll do. I'll soak some of the contaminated ones with peroxide let them dry and put in the fridge until time to sprout. I'll put some directly in another bag in the fridge to clean before sprouting with peroxide and I'll just try to sprout some without cleaning. I've still got plenty clean ones to sprout but I was hoping to be able to clean some so that I could do a nice giveaway with those.
