moments of clarity 1

Ever get any?
You maybe know the kind I'm talking about. You'll be thinking along, churning out the same circular garbage full of worry and care and nonsense and then at some point you feel the need to take a deep breath and all of a sudden you're calm and relaxed and you see right through all your nonsense and lies. But it only lasts a moment.
Lately I seem to get my one minute of sanity in the morning before indulging in lots of drugs for pain. And the pain meds can feel pretty damn good when they kick in but the are weak compared to that one moment of clarity. It feels so right.
I wonder where that moment comes from and where it goes to?

like you crystallized out of the discombobulation of sleep and dreams and then, after a brief peek at the universe, you get on with the business of being a guy with pain and history.

I've always been a prolific dreamer. I taught myself long ago to remember my dreams. But with using all this cannabis I have virtually stopped recalling my dreams and it sucks hugely cause the nights are what I look forward to.

I sometimes feel completely relaxed, but you're right, it's very brief. I've got a lot on my agenda that requires mental effort, I haven't much time for clarity anyways.
How'd you teach yourself how to remember dreams?

It's easy or it was for me. Intent. I just told myself I was going to remember a dream each night before falling asleep. I also asked myself during the day if I was dreaming or awake. I did this several times a day. In a couple of months I was up to speed and having the occasional lucid dream to boot.

Getting that uninterrupted deep sleep might be contributing to your moments of clarity though.

Interesting, did you ever write down any of your dreams? I've heard keeping a journal helps tremendously. I'm going to start trying the intent thing tonight, thanks for the tip.

to remember dreams I keep thinking about them as I awaken, and then ask myself again when my eyes open. it is not easy to bring it forward once the day begins.

I found having a pen and pad right by my bed is key. Write down as soon as you wake up or else you'll forget. at first you may only get 2 or 3 words down, which is fine... Eventually you'll be able to remember more detail.

it seems like when i smoke weed I'm able to get into the connectedness. Like my heart, soul and mind can communicate and sync with each other. I need to do that without drugs. i can work on the meditation thing. Damn I have a full plate of things to work on. I know the solution to every problem but its hard. BaH!
All people who suffer from addiction, no matter what the object of addiction is (sex, drugs, gambling, food, shopping, etc) have lost our connection to other humans. It's a seperation from the divine. I think thats part of it, the other part being its a disease. The diseased organ being the brain. Shut up brain, or i'll stab you with a q-tip.

I don't think it comes from anywhere or goes anywhere, clarity is like space or awareness, it is just here, but belief, identity, thoughts, associations all come swirling in and can captivate our attention

I believe dreaming occurs in the REM period distinct from deep sleep.

Yup, and numerous studies seem to indicate that cannabis, particularly going to bed while high, reduces REM sleep... Many people who quit using cannabis seem to rebound and dream much more and more vividly than prior to ever having used cannabis. Anyways, I was just pointing out that deep sleep is the most recuperative state of sleep, so getting more of it might contribute to why he feels more lucid first thing in the morning.

Yes I forgot about that part. A dream record is essential at least in the beginning.
