Don't worry about taking the veil off, just throw it in your dehydrator.
That's the right time to harvest.

no i was not removing the veil, just picking the specific mushrooms with their veil pop. i know theres a big controversy between closed caps and open cap shrooms, i prefer open, have noticed no difference really in my experience with consumption of closed or open.

So with all that being said I'm assuming it doesn't matter really when you pick the mushroom, as long as youdont damage the substrate it shouldn't effect the next flush

It does matter. When the veil begins to tear it's at the peak of psycho-activeness.
Before is too immature, any time after and you're fine but the earlier the better so it doesn't waste water just gaining weight you'll dehydrate anyway.

I've harvested twice so far. only grabbing about 3.5 dry a time. just cuz thats what is able to be picked. I've noticed with the chitwan strain i can let them rise about a inch more before they start to sporeulate. but i just wanted to share some pictures of where they are now as of 1/21/15.
In one of the pictures i see some blue on the stipe as if the shroom was picked and started oxidizing.. but it is still alive and has progressed in size, now is it just bruising, and what could cause this bruising if the shrooms I've harvested on first flush wasn't from the same base area as the bruising shroom/wasnt even a single shroom harvested around it.. i see a lot of myce piss around the edges, not a lot, but there is some. and it look alike it may be stressed but should recover. the pin set on the upcoming yields are intense, i should've cut that one shroom in the picture above with a massive little pin set, ill upload another picture of the field of pins that are just knots right now. but i thought it was suuuuper neat especially if you check it out, zoom in with you computer tools if you can and check those babies out... the picture might zoom in enough already for you to see its glory. Also with this strain I'm really nervous about harvest, here are a few things I've noticed towards maturity of each shroom(take in mind i always forget that starting form multispore you always have different genetics in each individual shroom sometimes even in a cluster, so not all shroooms will mature at the same size and be the same.) So i know every strain matures different but this one is odd.. this is my assumed steps in order of how it looks and what has been happens (you can notice all this that I'm talking about if you look at all the pictures too)
so 1. first the mushroom, like any normal pin, grows up and the stipe is connected and then when it pops, it looks like its stretching to pop and some does and some doesn't and then bam its ready to pick in 24hrs IMO so it can grow to its fullest. 2. Buuuut some of the mushrooms don't even pop their veil and then almost seem to stop growing in height. maybe thats why they are bruising cuz they are ready. 3.they start to get a little black/grey form spores and then eventually start to fold and get curly, ( obvious cuz they are ready, but I almost feel like they just might pop. they are stretching far it seems and look like its tight tension and soon to pop once a few more days go by. I'm not sure if anyone has any specific info on this strain that says something about harvesting parameters.
4. Just here are some gnarly pictures thank you guys

Yea once the mushroom reaches a certain point it wont lose potency but it wont gain any either, and will keep growing. Which means they will seem less potent by weight, you will need to eat more mushroom material.

these kinda look like mine, i appreciate this post brotha!
@Mushpunx Yeah man, the brain is a weird thing but a very intellectual organ that we are so lucky to be blessed with. Look at the link in the bottom of my posts, the signature and go to the Chitwan Grow. I'll post a link here too. I uploaded pictures and i am harvesting tonight and will post a harvest picture to show my results step by step. So far i have yielded 7g dry. And i like to call myself the eyeball king, as i think I'm about to harvest somewhere around 100g-150g wet. But like i said ill weigh an post pictures in the log. Here is that link guys. Thanks again.
Now would it be logical to case after first flush, or is that too much stress? i just don't want to run out of myce food if i can keep it clean long enough and keep con tams away, or has anyone ever heard of crushing up some of the box, like a corner right before the last harvest and dropping it in some sterilized substrate or rye? just a thought. I'm about to search it but i was already on a roll typing so why not.
