Matted mycelium looks like trich? * 1
    #21152109 - 01/20/15 08:27 PM (9 years, 3 months ago)

Colonizing a mono and my lid keeps sending a couple droplets of water onto this one spot on the substrate. The mycelium where it's landing is matted and denser looking than the other stuff. I'm pretty sure that it's just from the water trauma but I'm worried about trich. Could it actually be trich or is it probably just matted up myc? Clean spawn, spawned on the 12th, no bad smells, etc. Pic in little while.

You really can't tell if it is trich, so don't fuck with it. Leave it be and see what happens. If you try a primitive strike and it is mycelium you are going to damage your network and reduce your fruits. If it is trich, you can't save the mono anyway and will end up having to remove it so it doesn't contaminate your growing area.

Trich is pretty easy to spot. It doesn't sound like that's what you're dealing with, though.

Post pictures.

Pretty much answered my own question looking at the pictures. Kind of hard to tell the area I'm talking about so here's one with it circled.

Seems to me that it's just mycelium that's been beaten a bit by the water, unless you guys see something I don't.

The picture really makes it easier to see, it's more concerning looking to the naked eye squinting through a tiny crack in the lid or the saran wrap window.

You can open it up for the picture.  No big deal.

Good reference point. The trich seems to more exist in the valleys between the substrate and less on top of the substrate like myc would, I don't think that's what's in my picture.
