Pheasant hunting with a pistol * 1
    #21077478 - 01/06/15 02:41 PM (10 years, 12 days ago)

Went out in the woods today, exploring a new place i thought would be good for upland game as the deer season just ended. I packed a backpack with extra socks extra layers some supplies and a 1967 crosman mark 1 .22 cal co2 pellet pistol, with a red dot scope mounted to it. I can hit a dime at 30 yards standing shot after shot.

Not sure if im going to see anything or not, i follow a stream i suspected of having brok trout in it and i did see a few swimming around. I came to the area i suspected of having good upland and small game, again not sure if im going to see anything i stop in a thick low area and could see 4 does and 3 big bucks running away and along a even better trout stream that intersects 2 abandoned grain fields with a rye field on the other side of the clearcut to the left of me, holy fuck. After ten minutes just observing everything i hear rustling in the bushes and see a huge rooster pheasant i turn around take five steps away take the tun out load it and put it up and miss 3 times because of thick brush. I followed him with no shots for about another half hour then he just disappeared.

I walk along the stream and cross it going along the edge of the grain field and nothing but feathers everywhere, i cross and old logging road and go up a piney hill and to the left is a big huge overgrown farm field and to the left is another abandoned grain field with a swamp between, i couldnt make it through the swamp so i go along the edge of the grain field and hear rustling in the brush stop take two steps away from the field into the brush and a hen just about flys right into me up and does a big circle the crashed into the swamp, make it half way to her then go back to the field keep walking along the edge of the field.

about at the end i hear crashing in the brush and see a rooster just in the swamp slipping around not able to fly on the slippery ice he flaps ten feet and gets solid ground about 20 yards from me and i take a shot at his eyeball and it hit about a half inch low and to the right because just as i pulled the trigger he craned his neck out as if to fly but the pellet hit his neck paralizing him. I walked up and put one in rhe back of his head and it was over. And i had a nice five pound two foot tall beautiful bird at hand and figured that was enough action for the day and walked along a high ridge about 4-500 feet above the whole area and once i got to the top realized on the other side of the ridge was a 5-10 foot deep 20-50 foot wide river that i suspect to have trout and bass in it, we will find out soon. As i turned around i saw that there was about 20 different abandoned grain fields and another dozen abandoned fields grown over and half a dozen abandoned rye fields.

All within an area of about 1500 acres. With fields of about 1-100 acres, in groups of 2-5 fields woth rockwalls and fences between and then there would be a trout stream coming through a swamp and another group of fields, with all the swamps and streams meeting up at one point at the left forming and even larger trout stream where they all meet up. Oh my god i found possibly the best upland game hunting area in the world and its ten minutes from home and i live in little rhode island, ill have pictures up soon.

Nice dude.
When i saw the thread title I’m like no fucking way he got anything.

I would use a shotgun personally but pellet gun is sweet because you dont have to clean up buckshot.

Yeah its tough to get the not too fly. I figured i would make it a challenge if anything, im deffinatley going back there with a shotgun, possibly some close friends and a couple nights in the woods. Shoot some duck, pheasant, quail and catch some fish smoke some good weed maybe eat some edibles and l at night, whats better than that.

Sounds like a hell of a time, to me.

Quail is good eating, and you can never go wrong fishing with some buddies.
