Why don't you put a tablespoon or three of white vinegar in your PC before you run it then, so that doesn't happen?

I've thought about that, but haven't done it. I thought vinegar and aluminum were pretty reactive together. It won't oxidize the inside of my PC?

I thought that was specifically the point, to keep the foil particles from getting all over your jars? My jars always come out clean so long as I remember to add the vinegar.

I haven't noticed anything weird, though, other than maybe my foil's a little weaker than it should be after a PC run. After 2-3 it's downright frail, and very dull looking, and the texture is highly unpleasant. I think that happens without the vinegar too though, right?

I've never reused foil., but I do recycle it all. I guess diluted vinegar wouldn't have any effect on the inside of my PC. I'm gonna try some vinegar in my next PC run. If it has no effect on the inside of my PC and my jars aren't covered in calcium deposits I'll be really happy.

I think those are aluminum deposits. If there was that much calcium in water I wouldn't ever have to drink milk. Not that I have to drink milk. In fact I probably shouldn't. But I digress.

Cool beans. In labs they make a bunch and leave what's unused in their flask... then microwave it when they need to pour. Think it lasts up to 3 months this way.
Figured it would work.. was concerned about heat drawing air in through the filter. My mind is at ease

I have also heard of this.

But it makes me wonder how, once they open it to pour, isn't the agar exposed to contamination?
Then again I talked to a microbio-major and he said that 'contamination is always expected'
We always go for clean spawn but in a general-every-day bio lab some contamination is always expected on plates.

Not sure either... antibiotic agar... good technique... speed. Maybe mold contams aren't a problem in labs like bacterial contams I've opened the same plate 5 times with no problem.... i've also opened them once and ruined everything lol.

Contamination is expected?
What the fuck, that's bio-chem, they shouldn't be talking like that

It liquifies really quick so be careful not to do it too long. 10 seconds is usually good...I just stop the microwave once I see it melt down.

Not much you just need a couple inches of water and elevate your plates above the water line with something like jar rings.
