Sterilizing water in a jar. for grains
    #21126285 - 01/15/15 06:38 PM (9 years, 4 months ago)

I have a couple of whatmans and SFD and RTV, but dont a tek that uses this, unless nobody is getting results any other way.  but I'm just going to use this jar long enough to PC it so the water is clean, aspirate it to a fresh syringe, inject into colonized grains and then withdraw the mycelium laden water.

It is probably common sense but Can I just put water in a jar, make a hole, cover with micropore->foil->rubber band and PC it?  Should I make a nice jar lid or can i just run with this micropore hole? What do you all do?

Also is 30 mins the appropriate time of 15psi for sterile water?

Thanks for your time

Use a filtered lid with an injection port like you would otherwise.  The source of sterile water must be just as impervious to contaminants as your grow containers.

I'd rather not RTV a new lid if micropore will be okay. this will just be one time use jar for withdrawing LC so i want to use least supplies. Maybe nail a hole in a jar and tape it up.

Never had Cakes get contaminates with micropore (Except when accidentally used plastic tape that warped), this is why I'm trying to get a little more specific here if anyone can chime in on their "Jar Water Ritual".

Drill a hole in a plastic lid, fill it with rtv and use it as an injection port (allow 12 to 24 hrs curing time for rtv), drill another hole for the syringe filter and then rtv the stringe filter to the lid.

This kind of lid is suitable for LI or LC, the syringe filter doesn't allow for enough GE for grain jars though. Good luck.

Like this, except the injection port is made of rtv:

Pressure cook for 20 mins at 15psi.

for loading one syringe your fine with micropore but take into consideration your grain is gonna take some water so ya won't get your whole syringe back
