Desmanthus Illinoensis
    #21131323 - 01/16/15 09:35 PM (9 years, 4 months ago)

I've ordered several hundred seeds with the hopes of growing it indoors to research it's abaility to be used in place of mimosa hostilis and its levels of NN-DMT not saying I would extract it at all. I am however going to post photos of the growth to allow people to see how long this plant takes to grow and in which conditions does it grow best.
Im hoping to receive them Monday and to begin germination.
I'll keep you posted.
Let me know your thoughts.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but....

If one is wanting to use this plant as a source of DMT specifically, I think it's a poor substitute for mimosa because it contains a wider spectrum of alkaloids, not just N,N-DMT....this plant also contains a toxic compound.

Not only that, but I have a feeling it would take a few years before the plants started to produce alkaloids at their fullest potential (if at all). The length of time it's going to take, all the energy, and the amount of space the plants will likely take up makes this seem like a waste to me .

With that said, surely curious to see how it goes for you :strokebeard: .

I'll be planting a few outdoors this year, and checking on some tiny ones to see if they survived from last year. I'll check in on this thread and maybe post up some of mine if they make it. Good luck to ya!

Mimosa is what I use in that aspect I was just curious to see if this could work, but it is a weed by nature meaning growth may not necessarily take so long that's the sake of the research. The alkaloids are found in the root bark same as the mimosa. It may contain a significantly smaller amount but I've heard its up to 0.34% as erowid claims. And if this plant can work it can lead to a good supply, an a cheap one at that.
Thanks for your thoughts though!
Edit: it's also said it could contain gramine like phalaris which I could see given they grow in similar areas, but the extractions may remove these. Several pulls could be used it may just be a little more time consuming but like canabis that's grow the quality maybe be much better, and safer since I can control the weather, soil content, and the stress if any is used.

I'll be planting some outside as well when the temp lowers. I'll start some inside in the mean time. Feel free to PM me about your progress since we seem to be on the same page

I've read that thread! Haha. I've done some looking around about it and I've seen others who were curious about it but I wanted to give it a shot myself. I was going to do a pretty detailed report on it.
If you find any other plants growable indoors let me know an ill go for it.

Seeds came in. Boiled some water and I'm currently letting them sit in a jar. The outside shell makes germinating difficult so this softens it. I also put some in a paper towel/plastic bag germination, planted some by the window as well as outside. Tomorrow I'll plant the softer ones and see which methods seems to work best. Posting pictures tomorrow morning

So I boiled some water and put the seeds into it so they could absorb it and become softer to break the shell. I let them sit for 48 hours. I planted the ones that moved away from the shell and became white or the ones the immediately cracked open.

I planted them into a mason jar and keep it in the window.
Today one of them sprouted off into the corner.

I'll keep you posted. The ones outside haven't sprouted given the temps are in the 40's in the day and low 30's at night. They'll probably take off around april or may when it gets warmer.
Also, just throwing it out there that I'm also testing out a home made terrarium i'll have a link here for it if you're interested in my gardening.

Also the root is about an inch or two in 3 days.
