Pan Cyan

Here are some pan cyans that I've got some questions about. I nocced a pint of oats a while back, and they sat for way to long. Then I mixed that pint in with 1-1.5qts of straight pasteurized horse manure. I let that colonize for a little longer than I wanted to, but I didn't want to use coco as a casing, and couldn't find anything but miracle grow mix. Finally found some of the jiffy peat pellets and hydrated/pasteurized a few as a casing. I cased and put it straight into fruiting. This is what it looks like after about a week give or take.

Temps have been in the low 70s, probably upper 60s in the evening, much cooler than I'd prefer. No contams, smells like mush, but I'm curious about the lump/growth in the upper left hand corner. Here's a closer shot.

It feels like a hard mass of myc, kind of spongy. How long before I should start noticing pins?

You know what sucks, I have pan cyan jamaica and had 10 jars colonize. I opened them up and seen the same growth as you have in the corner of the tub on top of all my jars and I tossed all of them out because I thought they were bad. They didn't resemble any of my cube grows. Now i'm thinking they were probably good

I had a space heater, but the one in my bedroom kicked the can, so the wife made me give it back lol. Other than the temps making things crawl, everything else looks ?

Good to know. Next up is some Samuiensis. Got a pint of WBS that should be ready in the next day. From the Hawk
Brauma, horse, buffalo, or cow dung mixed 50/50 with soft woodchips. Spawned with rice style cakes- with 50/50 BRF/ grass seed ground to flour. Colonized in a large filter-bag. Dug it out, put in a gargage bag, spread out into a box, and forgot about it. Cased a week later with coir/vermic/lime. Aggresive yet delicate, these came up about 2 weeks after casing. Its said in Thailand if you can grow panaeolus species you can grow these as they can be treated similiar. A nice picture from Feito's porch in Thailand of his ps. samuiensis experiment.
Wood chips? Should I use a 50/50 manure/sawdust mix?

Awesome, I've got plenty of the fuel pellets. Not so much poo though. This way will let me stretch the poo further. Haven't gotten around to gathering more.

I always get a kick out of that. I was feito on here many years ago when I forgot my password. Lol. Never been to Thailand though. They were grown on cow manure mixed with pet store Aspen chip litter.

So will sawdust work instead of the chip litter? Any other tips on the Samuiensis?

Hmmmm, that was 13 years ago... I remember it being a really fluffy mix. Sawdust would be OK, as long as it's not too 'thick' with it. They probably would do well on just manure too. I was just mixing up things that I had on hand.

So to then it wasn't a need for wood based sub like ps. cyans or azur, just something to help fluff up the manure? I was wondering why the addition of anything wood. I wonder why you don't see/hear about it more like the other cyans or cams.

Yea, they should do fine without. I used to mess around with a lot of strange methods. Not sure why they aren't popular. They are very potent and strangely different. I might have to try them out again...

Just an update. The casing looks the exact same, except now it's starting to ooze dark brown liquid around that funny growth. It's also started to have more of those lumpy growths all on the bottom of the bag and it's starting to smell god awful. Got this culture from someone who said they hadn't managed to fruit it, wondering if it's just a bad culture.
