Flowhood filter question

Hey guys, I am planning to build a flowhood in the near future and I have a few questions. First, I read somewhere that the pleats on the hepa filter should be running vertically, Is this true? Second, I am wondering if anyone has ordered the 24"x18"x5.8" filter from FP and knows if it is 18" tall or wide (guess it depends on whether or not pleat direction really matters). Any help is appreciated

Also, I am looking at 2 different blowers and would like some opinion on which would better suit my needs. Dayton 1TDT2 Or Dayton 1TDT8 I would rather get the 1TDT2 because its quite a bit cheaper than the 1TDT8, But I have a feeling that it will be just on the threshold of being acceptable, whereas the 1TDT8 will be more than plenty and will need to have a little restriction on the inlet. Any insight on the issue?

Sorry no one's answering,
Unfortunately I don't have the expertise to help you so I'll just leave this here and hope someone comes in and checks to see if I said the right thing and then comments.

Try the hepa hood I made from Home Depot ... Only thing is I had to mount the heppa upside down

Tested open agar plates for 12 hours and no contamination after two weeks on the agar plates

dont waste ur money on them blowers or a make shift home air filter...
get a 6 inch valuline and a 24x12 99.99 filter from filter2b,,, the blower doesnt show the ratings at the static pressures, but it works perfect I use a book to block part of the intake actually

Awww yea I get to talk about my flow hood again haha haha thats the filter I bought.
Its 18 " tall and 24" wide dude. Its tall enough, it will fit spawn bags but I dont use them much. If you do *alot* of them then go for the 24 x 24 but this filter is very nice and well worth the price man I think its fair.
I dynno about running vertically but I built mine this way. The pins are wicked delicate man dont make the mistake I did and bump into them haha you'll bend them to hell

Are you trying to use the air purifyer as a laminar flow hood or is it just to pull some of the mold out of the air in your workspace with it

Thanks for the input guys, and mushpunx, how much did fp charge for shipping on the hepa? I called them but the lady there said that they cannot tell me the shipping cost without making an order first. and as far as the home depot hepa/positive flow box(?) goes, I am tired of the confines of my SAB which is why I have decided to build a decent flowhood.

It wasn't that bad, like 50 bucks maybe

Nice. I saw a thread a while ago where someone was charged like $150 for shipping from FP but it was for a 24x24 if I am remembering correctly. Needless to say, that had me a little worried.

I was worried too haha. Just place the order, you'll get a shipping quote. It wont charge you or send anything u ntill you actually confirm the order.. I did by phone.
Earth's toungue.. They're the ones with hundred fifty dollar shipping. I sent them an email and asked why thuer prices on fhe filters seem fair but the shipping costs more than the unit, they told me it was because it ships freight from the manufacturer

I will keep that in mind, thanks. Hopefully I will be able to start ordering parts here soon, I have my plans all drawn up but I was basing my calculations on the assumption that the outside of the filter is made to fit perfectly into a 24"x18" slot. Are the dimensions on the filter fairly accurate, or should I go with my gut and build it after receiving and measuring it? I am honestly just trying to avoid re-working the whole design

I would build the box around the filter. Its gunna be a tight fit, my filter slides into the box and it fits air tight, it would stay in place by itself.
The molding keeos it from falling out wgen carrying it if it tips.
I guess it depends on your carpentry skills, I can barely measure haha
