RR has stepped away for the moment as he deals with his personnel life and will more then likely not return. i wanted to post this as a thank you for everything he has done for our wonderful hobby and this site which is a lot more then just how to grow mushrooms, he also guided me and many others on how to teach people and with that his knowledge will always be passed down. and on that note feel free to post your own thank you's or favorite RR moments as i will sticky this for awhile. much love cronicr

Seems I got to the party late, and never had the chance to get introduced. Never the less, RR's little mountain is only a hop, skip and a jump away from my little mountain, so maybe someday our paths will cross. Until then, may all your weeds be wildflowers, and may all your fences have gates.
Thanks for everything you've contributed to this site, most of us wouldn't be successful without the people like you!

triple cronicer
I remember posting a "Where's Roger" thread when i stepped back into the shroomery scene on the regular. My heart sunk a little when I found out he stepped away from mycology. Miss seeing his name next to the 'last post' on 1/2 or more of the threads on the first page. I always tell myself he'll be back.
I believe he was the #1 contributor to information pertaining to mushroom cultivation on this site. Invaluable info and a main reason I am where I am today in my own endeavors
Soon his name is gonna be a legend --------- If you see this Roger, good luck in the rest of your life and whatever you choose to grow I'm sure you'll find a way to master it. I want to try some of your buds! You'll forever be missed in my eyes, wish you were still around so I could
Personal thanks, Bugler Boy

Some of the things I've appreciated about RR-
His crusade to improve and elevate the quality of the information at the Shroomery and the OMC in general. Frankly when I started coming here years ago, the lack of understanding was stunning. We had discussions on crossing shrooms by dropping 2 different "strains" on agar going on by people who would argue that no cell can have 2 sets of DNA. Look back at the MC posts from the early 2000s for gems like the oven tek.
A lot of others were on this crusade as well, but RR is arguably the most noteworthy in this area.
His refusal to send "Let's Grow Mushrooms" out for overseas production, in spite of its effect on his profits and marketing. I'm not a fan of Walmart and I sure as hell am not a fan of the economic slavery Chinese people endure so we can have disposable televisions. Very few people put their conscience above their finances but RR did and that tells me all I need to know about his character. I'm as grateful for the statement that makes as I am for his contributions to the OMC. You're a true Patriot, RR.
His selfless use of his time on this forum. RR has been far more than a moderator and vendor to this place. Thread after thread after thread of help for anyone willing to listen after asking a question. His taking the time to prove what he was saying was legit.
Redboy!
Thanks for your foundational work for growers everywhere RR.

well that sucks to hear, but even still, much respect to him!!! his posts will live on forever (i hope) and help generations and generations of noobs and advancing growers to come. i know i have to personally thank him for all his info and videos. i'd not doubt that he was the most helpful person in my last few months of reading. i saw his videos on youtube a while back and then once i started reading more on the Shroomery and realized how awesome RR was i felt bad for watching all his videos for free so i bought them! i'm happy to own them now for whenever i need a quick reference. i've got the pressure cooker running right now for the first time and thanks to RR (and the rest of the Shroomery) i feel decently confident in this first grow! i know i sure as hell won't EVER forget to flame sterilize, Thanks!

I was thinking today about the impact you have had on this hobby. You have been part of every new piece of information I absorbed and incorporated into my work. Either directly, though the wealth of information in the form of posts on these forums, to the many TCs, whose words you have influenced, and from which I have taken valuable knowledge. Finally to the first jar I ever inoculated, as I watched your video over 5 times to make sure I didn't miss anything.
Those videos that made it look so easy, those videos that gave me my very first successful grow.
Your influence has indirectly grown more shrooms than anyone, there is no doubt.
Finally thank you for your "take no shit" attitude. Thank you for cleaning this place up.
Cheers

Thanks for the nice comments. I started to make a thread to say goodbye but saw this one. People need to realize I'm not moving on because of my new business-I'm moving on because of the abject failure of my most important mission in life.
Those of you who have followed this site for a few years know my wife Vivian has been fighting cancer for over ten years. She appears in a few of the clips on Let's Grow Mushrooms, which I got out and watched yesterday just to have a chance to see her smiling face again.
My baby, the love of my life and my very reason for living died in my arms over the holidays.
I suffered through 4 failed marriages before I found her. I always knew that with Vivian I had true love and that it wasn't conditional on being in a good mood, or having a good financial year, or always saying the right thing, etc. She was the only person I ever had who loved me no-matter-what and made sure I knew it. Now she's gone after 15 wonderful years, and I'm all alone up here in the middle of nowhere.
I started growing medicinal mushrooms instead of psychedelic when we met because I was sure I could save her. John Holliday of Aloha Medicinals graciously provided her with products not yet on market but which had shown promise in jump-starting the immune system. She got a medical marijuana card in 2000 and a designated provider certificate for me so I could grow medical pot. I've developed a high CBD strain that achieves nearly 20% CBD because it's rumored to impeded tumor growth.
Unfortunately, none of it worked and the only person I've ever truly loved in this world is gone. My heart is broken and I've spent most of the last three weeks curled up in a fetal position on the floor bawling my eyes out.
How can I continue to answer questions about mushroom growing when the most important reason for growing them in the first place turned out to be a devastating failure?
Our local newspaper did a front-page story on her. If anyone can get it, please post it here. If not, I'll try to scan it and get it posted in a few weeks. It's on the front page of the Jan 14, 2015 issue of the Ferry County View. It gives information that I've never released before about her life in Russia and the sacrifices her family went through to get to America.
Take care, RR

So unbelievably sorry for your loss.
I wouldnt even know where to begin to respond to that and it'd probably turn into an essay. I got all tingly reading it.

I'd like to offer my condolences as well, won't even attempt to imagine what you're going through. Hopefully your work growing marijuana (or maybe even mushrooms if you can bring yourself back to it) will help take your mind of things and get you in a better head space.

RR is a friend I've never met, although I have been priviledged to be a part of his life here at the Shroomery for many years now through his posts, some personal, always helpful. Our beliefs and knowledge in certain areas of mycology have been strengthened by his insights, videos, and the courage to begin such an endeavor in the face of our countries harsh laws.
For our sakes I am glad that RR was not the single pillar that kept this forum going strong, but that he taught others to be pillars as well and to keep learning, growing, experimenting, and sharing with others. Our world is blessed to have people like RR who contribute so selflessly for freedom of expression.
I can see him at Woodstock in 1969 with Jimmy Hendrix, Santana, Credence and so many others playing in the rain. I see him at the Wall in Germany when it fell in 1989, and I see him in Iraq in 2003 when the sculpture of Saddam Hussein is toppled.
Thanks for you courage RR. Come back whenever your time is right. We love you and miss you. I am indebted to you.

Thank you for everything, Marc.
Terribly sorry to hear about your loss... I read about the struggle with your wife and the big C a little and was intrigued, to say the least, by your efforts to grow cancer fighting mushrooms and save her from it... Cancer is the beast that will take a lot of us, no matter what we do to try and stop it... I'm very saddened to know that your efforts could not save her. I really don't believe you should feel at fault at all though, you tried your best and worked so hard to keep her around, it wasn't a failure and you succeeded at keeping her around longer... It really is amazing how far you have come since some posts I've read from you years ago to now... You are a great person and an idol to many.
Whatever you choose to do in the future, I hope you can find happiness again in some way without her. I can't even imagine what you are going though at this time. My thoughts are with you.

The number of people who have benefited from you just being yourself and doing what you think is right outweighs the number of people I've ever interacted with in my life.
You've left a strong legacy and it pains me that in this moment of darkness, you feel that it was all for nothing.

RogerRabbit said: Thanks for the nice comments.
Wow that's the saddest thing I've ever read.

You can shed tears that she is gone, or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all she's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see her, or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her only that she is gone, or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back. Or you can do what she'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Very sorry to hear about all this..
You will always have people on this forum that care about you RR. Even though many of us haven't met you. You've made a legacy on the shroomery (and mycology as a whole, in my opinion)
Stay positive my friend, and thank you for everything you've done. I'm sorry the medicinal mushroom thing didn't work out. sometimes cancer just can't be beat. It isn't on you. Just be thankful and glad for the opportunity to spend the time with her that you did.
Good luck and remember you'll always have caring friends to reach out to on the Shroomery.

I really think it's healthy to do both of these things, in the correct order, rather than to abstain from one in favor of the other. It's natural and expected to experience overwhelming hurt and it's important to allow those feelings to be expressed when they surface, rather than to bottle them up and maintain a false semblance of stability.
However, I don't feel that it's necessarily fair for anyone to tell him how he should be handling this. He'll make these decisions when he's ready, and to do so even a second sooner than that would be dishonest to himself.
Not that I want to take away from your message , because it is quite true, and a beautiful sentiment, and well written at that.

RR I thought you would have been around long enough to not take your work as a failure because of your expectations for the efficacy of your work. Hopefully the memories of your dear Vivian will help you see through the bullshit that is feeling like a failure.

You didn't fail RR. You gave her over a decade of life she wouldn't have had without your mushrooms/cannabis. I'm also sure the love you two shared played a part in her pushing through the cancer.
They gave her 6 months, you gave her much longer.

Be well brother. Just know you didn't fail, and you'll see her again.

The pain will subside and I hope one day that you return and continue your works.
You did not fail at anything, to me it sounds like a success story.
Death is inevitable for all of us unfortunately and the best of us do the best we can with what we have, anyone who does this is a success in my eyes. Doing what you can is a lot more than most people do.
One day at a time and eventually you will be in a better peace of mind.

Im sorry for your loss RR. Ive had some very close people to me also die over the holidays. Your mission was not a failure. You've inspired, encouraged and motivated so many individuals. I will remember why you did the lets grow dvd's. I know it was to produce money going to her treatment.
Before you solidify your decision to quit this hobby for good, you would know best what she would have wanted. I cant say for sure, but you are a premium asset to not only this community but others as well. If this is your final rodeo here I wish you the best of luck. You inspired me through my time of diagnoses and treatment when I learned I had a tumor in my head. Though I wasn't cultivating at the time I remembered why you made the dvd's that you did and it helped through a very difficult time.
I'm still in shock of the dreadful news you lost your soul mate.
RR, you're not a failure, what you did was not failure. You're your own worst critic. She will be remembered by many in this community because of you. And her memory will live on. I really hope you reconsider.
Cheers Marc, it truly was a pleasure to learn from you.

As a cancer survivor myself, I can say I'm truly sorry for your troubles.
I would not be growing mushrooms if you and your wife hadn't invested time into creating a priceless video about it.
I think, from what little I know, and what you've said, she would be very proud of what you've accomplished.

Well RR, i'm very sorry to hear about your loss. cancer is a tricky one. your treatments probably did more for her then anything the doctors did or could have though. i'm sure you are decently educated in fighting cancer after helping your wife for so long. so maybe you should take what you know and find others to apply it towards and help. it sounds like she must have had a pretty aggressive cancer, but there are many people out there that have less aggressive forms that might respond very well to mushrooms and cbd. sometimes after something bad happens in life it's good to keep pushing and find a productive path for your energy. since you are such an amazing grower, you might as well keep at it and make a difference in some other peoples lives. you will keep learning and gaining experience, and maybe one day you will be able to naturally beat any cancer. if anyone could do it some day, it's you.

I'm brand new here, but when I read what happened to you I was absolutely moved. That's tragic and one of the most difficult things a human being could deal with. But please know that your years of dedication to mushroom cultivation were not a waste. I used your Let's Grow Mushrooms series to produce my first flush of mushrooms the other day, and I haven't felt so proud of myself in a long time. My first pf tek has been therapeutic, and I guess what I'm rambling about is that you made a huge difference in my life and I want to thank you sincerely.

Deep gratitude to you Marc, for all you have done.
I acknowledge the pain of your loss even though I cannot know how it feels.
I also believe that it is possible that Vivian got maximum benefit possible out of life thanks to you and your efforts and your knowledge - that is thanks to your Love. (Like someone said, doctors gave her months, you gave her years.)
Best regards Johnny

This is very sad news. I wish this wasnt happening.
Roger Rabbit. Ive enjoyed every post youve made. You brought so much great knowledge and insight to the site.
I remember feeling so incredibly honored when u posted in my thread. It was such a great feeling.
I will miss your presence very much.
You, Mr. Rabbit, were my personal mushroom idol.
Its always sad to see a member leave, especially the legendary Roger Rabbit.
Farewell my friend. Good luck in your new life.
I hope one day, you will return, like a Great Mushroom Messiah!

RogerRabbit said: Thanks for the nice comments.
Fuck, I started growing medicinal mushrooms for similar reasons. I am so sorry for your loss my friend. Thank you so much for you invaluable contribution to this community! Please don't leave the community! We need you!
Mush love!

All I will say RR is that nothing you did was a failure. Through your quest for her you empowered, educated, and filled with passion more lives than you could know and in my eyes, that's a great legacy for anyone to live on through.
I know it doesn't matter much now but it will, you did everything you could and with intentions pure of heart and I'm sure that's more than she would have asked you for.
This too shall pass old friend, just try to focus on the good. Many thanks for what you have given to all of us and stay strong.

None of it was in vain, RR, don't fall into that spiral.
Through your wife's struggle, countless lives have been improved, have had meaning added to them, through the work you conducted together. Her legacy will live on, through every beat of every man and woman's heart, through the network of love that branches out, across even culture. That network, that you two, together, helped to foster and to bring into existence. To say she's gone is foolish, because forever, more than most, a part of her will be carried forth in countless hearts and minds, in those who have never seen her face, or even heard her name, because of the fruits of your undying love for her.
Your heartbreak has been a catalyst for the birth of love across the world.
She's not gone, and nothing has been done in vain.

Thank you Roger Rabbit for everything you have done, You are a very bright light in a dim world. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I remember so many of your old posts. you and roadkill set the stage. This here is my favorite RR quote. Quote:
RogerRabbit said: If it can be calibrated, it's fine. Re-calibrate weekly until it settles down.
I still don't know what that silly thing you bought first is. It's labeled a 'hydrometer', but hydrometers don't measure humidity. A hydrometer measures specific gravity and is what is used to test the antifreeze solution in cars. The package says it's used to measure 'humility', but unless you're confessing your sins to a priest in your car, I see no need for a humility meter. RR

RR, even though I learned to grow through other videos/books and not your epic LETS GROW MUSHROOMS videos, and you act holier-than-thou at times, I have a lot of respect for you and your knowledge. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Have to give it to him, , would not be where i am without him. He laid it out for y'all to play it out and did it in style. NOW Let's show him what we got! Don't think i coulda stuck it out if it wasn't for his abilty to shed light on such a lost soul. Truly inspiring and a great role model for our community. Was the only one i could trust coming into the mystical gun slinging gauntlet of information and experience. He made deciphering over a decade of evolving ideas and practice an ease and set straight my somewhat extremely ignorant situation and way of thinking. It's hard to argue with experience in this hobby and I think he;s got all of us beat there. He taught us how to walk now it's up to you to get running and accept the torch . AS matter of fact as you can get and no ego in the way. This forum has been an amazing experience and we owe that and endless appreciation to him. I accept his gift with gratitude and will do my part to uphold the tremendous foundation we have here. just wouldn't be the same without him. somehow he kept this big looney bin of a jungle afloat and got all of us animals in the same ship on a journey to the stars. That is a gawdly accomplishment in my bible, don't think we'll see a prophet of his caliber again.

Thank you for your time and knowledge RR, it's sad to see ya go and I hope you at least stop back in on occasion to let us know how things are going.
I honestly can not thank you enough, if it wasn't for people like you and the OP I probably never would've had a successful grow and never got to experience to magic of growing these precious things for myself.
I enjoyed tripping and all that, but cultivating them myself added so much to my experiences , and I really grew to love cultivating, possibly even more than actually tripping.

Cult forum all the way back when I was 18 your posts were always awe-inspiring to me. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has looked up to you in respect. RR,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Your wife was very lucky to have someone so dedicated to helping her throughout her battle. I am certain nothing anyone says can have much impact at the moment as you are grieving, but I doubt she would've fought as long and hard as she did without you by her side. I hope you can somehow take pride and happiness in that fact that you meant as much to her as she meant to you.

What you have done for this community is truly amazing though. Wherever life takes you from here, remember that you have thousands of people (my self included) that are graciously in debt to you for the knowledge that you shared. Good luck with everything as time moves forward.

After years of learning from the Shroomery, I'm honored to make my first post a thank you to the one who has made everything possible for me.
Thank you RR. With the help of this forum and you in particular, my first grow, three cased PE monotubs, has already produced several ounces with many more to come. You have brought real joy to myself and many many people all over the world. I will always carry a deep respect for you and your story.

The ability to be loved completely, in an open hearted way is completely dependent upon one's willingness to be completely and utterly devastated. You can't have one without the other. (quote from someone who I've forgotten.)
My appreciation for mushrooms comes from you. It's a practice that put me in touch with the life-cycle. It was you that I watched in videos and it was your posts that I read here on the site. When I first set up an account her, you threatened to ban me on my second post (I didnt' know what I was doing). You helped me with a jerk who sent some rude private messages. And you helped me pick out a heppa filter. You are a generous, if not cranky person from time to time, and that generosity is so beautiful. You gave your wife something to live for, too. She was made whole by you too.
I can't imagine how hard this is. Keep breathing, like the trees.

Damn man. Now I feel my love spectrum getting all shifty towards my better half.
If any amount I could give could change things I would my friend.
I could never know your pain. Or that all you did here was for such a cause. Nobility runs deep. And Love runs deeper.
I wish you the best. Youve helped me a great deal. Not just with mycology. But after reading your post here. My capacity for my own love realm is moved in ways I cannot elaborate upon. I thank you.

I've learned so much from you. Thank you. For the DVD's, for the time, for the love. I don't know why you're leaving, but know you'll be missed by ppl you don't even know. That's a sad bit of news. This kind of loss cuts to the core. I was looking forward to learning from the guru but I get the reasoning behind it.
I'm brand new here, in fact this is my first post. I suffer from pretty severe PTSD and I'm hoping to explore the uses of psilocybin in its treatment. I just purchased the RR vids a week or so ago, and my first BRF cakes are colonizing as we speak.
I hope, as they say, time heals all and that given enough time, RR will be back to guide those of us just beginning to learn this black art.
Peace be with you.

Just saw this. FUCK CANCER!
I don't think you failed at all, cancer is evil and 10 year survival rate is actually pretty good. While I've disagreed with you on some points, your information has been enormous and irreplaceable.

I couldn't have said it better myself. And you may not feel like going home after something bad has happened so take some time. But when you're ready to come home, we'll be waiting for you Roger Rabbit. Waiting with open arms. Maybe now is the time you might need those magic muddies more than ever... Thirty more grams might help you see things from another point of view...

RogerRabbit said: Thanks for the nice comments.
RogerRabbit,
I am new here but have read alot of your posts - so much as i feel i got to know you! And when i read this... i was taken aback by the loss you just suffered. I know words from a stranger may shoot right by you considering but i do know this. If she loved you - and you know she did - she would not want you to suffer. Not for one second. She would want you to pick yourself up and find happiness again. She would want you to continue your passions. And i know she sees NO failures on your part - That being said - follow her wishes. YOU ARE AN ARTIST - one who has inspired far more people than you could possibly know. Example: You have no idea how much your work and advice has inspired and impacted my life!
Im guessing at some point growing cubes you've eaten some! I'm also guessing then you've had experiences that prove their is more than this world. Other places. Some we've been to some we will soon. I personally don't believe in death. I believe we go to another place. Another mission. But your mission is still here.
Your not an ordinary Joe RR- otherwise i'd say go ahead and roll over. You are a creative genius and a teacher. Please look within and find your strength again. Lose yourself in your creativity. The earth needs you. This community needs you. Obviously.. lol
Anything you need. I'm sure someone - if not many of us - would be there for ya!!!!
I hope these words find you.

You gave all of you for her. Feel proud of yourself.

Thank you for all the selflessness you've showed when pouring so much of your valuable time and effort into this community. Your wife was lucky to have someone like you to look after her, and like other posters have said, she wouldn't want you to suffer.

I'm so, so sorry to hear about your wife, RR.
While I haven't been an active member I frequently research this forum for advice and information. Every time RR posted information or helped answer a question I knew I could trust his word. He readily shared his knowledge and the amount he contributed to this community was astounding.
Thank you for everything you've done for us.

Man, that's really sad to read. I never had any personal interaction with RR but I've read many of his informative posts. Losing your partner of 15 years must be horrendously painful. My heart goes out to him, and I think I speak for the entire community when I say that his research has been invaluable, and that his legacy and hard work will be a benchmark for all aspiring cultivators.

ah that's very sad news all around. had a couple of posts from him and have read his words over and over and laughed at his choice of incidental music on his DVD's loads of times, and just wanted to one of the many to say thanks for all your help and wisdom and research and hard work and inspiration
I feel chuffed that I had the chance to interact in the tiniest of ways, and also to enjoy the fruits of his labour so to speak. Bless you and all your friends and family and big hugs and sadness at your loss. The Big C is really dark, I know it al too well, and all I can do is say thanks again, you're a legend sir
cheers
Keeno
--------------
edit - just read Rogers last post and both me and my missus have had a good cry. I don't know if that helps anyone but us, but if we can somehow share your loss and anguish and help wick away some of the awful awful pain, then we're happy to do that. x
also, I have to say that loving and caring for your wife for 10 years is no failure at all. That's one of the best success stories I've ever heard in terms of cancer, and sometimes you just can't do anything, and if you shared a love like that, you're lucky indeed. She knows what you did and I don't think anyone could not realise how special they were. You certainly did not fail.

I am new here but you can easily see RR's presence everywhere on the site with his intense knowledge and his interest in squashing any mis-information on the boards. I've actually been trying to go through all his past posts, which is hard but I try to mostly read the longer (more than 100 words) ones. It'd be great if someone could create a best-of-RR though. I honestly learned a whole lot from his comments over the years and I'm sure there are some gems I haven't seen. I don't think I'll get through all of his history of course.
I made a cute gif of RR from one of his videos but it's not within the upload limits of the site. Oh well.

I am very sorry for your loss. What a shame. At least you can say that you've done everything within your power, and surely gave her many precious moments to leave this world with.
I would also like to say thank you so very much for all ofthe support you've given our community. I'm not sure that it means much at this time, but I feel obligated to express my gratitude for your help, before you disappear from us. It has been an absolute pleasure thumbing through the volumes of guidance you've provided all of us. You and Cronicr are both, in no small part, directly responsible for my own personal success in this hobby. I hope you find a way to surround yourself with positive things instead of drowning in the pain you must be feeling.
Best wishes, -Wooof!

RR was a huge part of the shroomery ever since I've returned to it as an adult (lol). He has helped a whole generation of shroomers, and may be as much of an influence to new growers as PF was.
He has directly influenced anyone that used a SGFC and changed the whole scene of "Psychedelic mycology" at the very least
Viva la Rabbit!
I feel like RR mastered this hobby anyway, and the sharing of this knowledge is priceless. It's like someone teaching you how to grow your own crops so you have food to eat. mycology is also like riding a bicycle in the sense that no matter how long, you can always return to it when you want/need to
My sig would not exist if it wasn't for RR (and fractals)
