OTD compromise
    #2112718 - 11/16/03 09:36 PM (13 years, 27 days ago)

Okay Im not trying to stir up anything but I have noticed that many people are concerned about their right to post offensive images. THis is obviously against shroomery policy. I posted in another thread that perhaps the shroomery could create a function that when you click on it it would warn people before they open the thread that there was an offensive image inside. It could be as simple as making the thread title appear in red. And if the mods were nice enough to implement this people could agree that if no warning was given, that would result in a banning. I personally am not too upset about the removal of offensive images since I do find a lot of them offensive, however I just though I would put up this to see what people think.

Thanks for the suggestion. Your idea does have merit. Although, I think it might be a little hard to implement and maintain...

Compromise would indeed be a good thing, so would respect for others and a modicum of self-restraint. Unfortunately, I see few voices in this area. People seem to enjoy polarizing themselves, and getting all worked up over things. I suspect this is a function of neuro-physiology and varies from person to person. Some people really enjoy conflict for conflict's sake -- it's kind of a "buzz" for them.

I know where I stand, and that is firmly in the middle, which is a bitch of a position to be in. It would truly be better if the situation resolved itself through the enlightened participation of the membership, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

We are working on a number of different solutions, and we are listening to the minority of members, such as yourself, who are actually contributing ideas, and not just rhetoric and rabble rousing. Unfortunately, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

So, thanks!

Doobie: I dont understand why you have to be so mean to the admin/mods. All they are trying to do ishelp you and all the rest of us users.  Maybe if everyone would work with them instead of flaming them all the time more work would get done and you would have more of a say and like what is going on a little better.

Just my thoughts on the whole thing

/me hugs all the admin/mods

Okay pappy, that was a great response. Let's see if it holds water.
Now that OTD is gone for a trial 10 day period, and most OTD regulars
such as myself are suffering from withdrwal symptoms (I assume), it
may cause reflection and invention as it does in my case.

Here's my brilliant idea:

Put OTD back as it was, but READ ONLY for posterity.
Create a replacement for OTD called "The Playground" (or something).
In this new forum, ANYTHING goes, losely moderated, BUT...
...and here's the kicker... Threads self-destruct 7 days from creation of
the first parent post. Yes, it will be as active
as OTD ever was, but it will no longer be a database hog.
Knowing that the posts will go up in smoke will be a deterent
for using the forum for anything serious, meaningful or archive-worthy,
driving more mature users to post in other forums instead.
See why I'd call it a playground?

What do you guys think?

I'll probably always do drugs, so that just contributes to the addiction to The Shroomery... It's a vicious circle of bliss. :tongue2:

Those are both good suggestions, and we have been discussing several very similar ideas, along with many others. We are trying to weigh the benefits and drawbacks of each scenario, and serious input such as yours makes the task much easier, so it is appreciated. Thanks!
