ultimately we each have to wade through all the facts, fads, sensationalism and differing opinions to find out what works for as an individual. and interestingly enough, the one thing most respectable food/nutrition experts seem to agree upon is that gluten & sugar are pretty much the devil
can you tell me more about the fasting too?
I too like reading about the differences in the male-female biology, I think it's very interesting from an evolutionary perspective. The Bulletproof diet book had a short but informative subject about female needs and one chapter about male/female sex hormone optimization. Anyway it's one of the best nutrition books I've read and super easy to digest, I would recommend it to anyone interested in nutrition.
I started doing some google research and spent an hour reading all about intermittent fasting and women and it seems like it's a real problem for some.
Intermittent fasting is simply that you eat everything in an 8 hour window and fast for the 16 remaining hours. It's easiest IMO when done from 2pm to 8pm. You can eat pretty much as much as you want as long as you eat the right foods. However I don't like to starve myself in the morning so luckily Dave Asprey hacked this problem with Bulletproof Intermittent Fasting which is the same as the regular IF but with BP coffee in the morning, problem solved, no hunger no problems.
The basic info about intermittent fasting can be found here LeanGains, and info on the BP-modification here. The LeanGains site and that Bulletproof blog post contain all the info you need if you're a man, with sources and some pretty interesting science. (the 1st comment on the BP blog is from a woman who actually gained weight doing the IF)
Dave Asprey also posted about the problems women were having with the fasting here. It mentions a post by Stefani Ruper that has a lot of really interesting info. I never heard about Stefani Ruper before but I definitely need to read more stuff from her.
She mentions Mark Sisson who I am a fan of, so I googled what he has to say about the subject and found a reply to the blog post above here.
Now I know just a bit more and my eyes hurt so time to get off the computer I hope these links interest some of you as much as they did me!

Thanks man, I super appreciate it.
& yeah, I've been realizing that I spend like 4-5 hours a day researching and talking about nutrition and wellness; while procrastinating my money job. hi ho! i need to parlay all this research, knowledge and bullshitting into dollah bills, yo.

im a sucker for good chinese food. on my cheat days, i like to get some. but as of late, i cant tolerate gluten in the least bit. i was gluten free for 6 months, n now im gluten n grain free, n when i eat that shit now, i get naseuous and literal PAINS in my stomach. like my intestines are being mashed like ground beef.
lemme ask you, i know you avoid dairy, does that include yogurt? i know dairy is hard to digest, but with all the probiotics yogurt offers, im wondering if i should start incorporating it back into my diet.
also, why dont you eat most fruits? because of the sugar? whats your beef with natural sugar?
the digestive issues i have are pains after eating most meals. my stomach makes noises as if its hungry, but it feels like its overloaded n is sluggish. like i could literally feel the difficulty it has breaking down food.
i need to get another bottle of digestive enzymes apparently. n sorry for all the questions, im just genuinely curious n like hearing your guys' opinions.

i eliminated grains completely from my diet (granola, oatmeal, brown rice) but although i seem to feel better mentally, physically i feel worse. i have stomach pains most of the day and im always hungry. i wake up in the middle of the night and my stomach is making madddd crazy noises.
im doing some research online for the best foods to heal your gut, cause my digestion seems to be acting up again, and brown rice was on the best food for your gut list because of the high fiber content.
so what do you guys think??
Aw man, that doesn't sound right. I had some digestion problems in the beginning too, and my problem was too few vegetables. You need to eat a lot, every time you eat it should be mostly veggies with quality fats and protein on the side.
If you feel hungry all the time that probably means your body is telling you to give it some fuel. If you're hungry in the morning try adding grass fed butter and MCT oil to your coffee. Eat a shitload of veggies, add some quality fat to keep you satiated. Learn to love avocados and olives, they're an easy way to make your salads more filling. Keep making the smoothies but go easy when you start using new foods. Cacao for example is so fiber-rich it can make your stomach hurt, hemp as well.
If you wake up at night feeling hungry that could mean you need a bigger dinner, veggies again and maybe some beef or fish.
Too bad I'm not an expert so all I can do is tell you what worked for me when I had my problems in the beginning.
Yogabunny, I do the Joe Rogan Kale shake with my own modification. I ditch the pear and add steamed spinach and butter and MCT oil once again I also throw in some green superfood blend because it's already as green as it gets and I won't even notice it. Nobody believes me but I actually like this shake, people make interesting faces when they try it but I actually enjoy drinking it.

Yes, unfortunately that means yogurt too. I quit yogurt years ago when I first saw my Ayurvedic Dr. back in NYC. She said yogurt, being acidic, increased the heat in my body and because I'm strongly "Pitta" that I should avoid it. I was eating it for breakfast every day at the time, so I figured I would give it a shot, and i helped a lot. When I eat yogurt it sits like an uncomfortable log in my stomach, so I avoid it completely, and take a probiotic supplement daily first thing in the morning.
The only dairy I really seem to tolerate anymore is butter or ghee.
I don't really have a beef with natural sugar, I have just found that keeping my sugar intake super low is what works for my body. I usually do a cup of berries (blueberries & raspberries) in my morning smoothie & then maybe an apple or pear as a snack at some point in the day.
Set that smoothie sounds dank. I would need to get a Vitamix or Blendtec though because kale comes out the consistency of astroturf in my magic bullet or ninja

man, im complicated.
set, i do maybe need to eat more. i eat until im full but it generally only lasts 30 minutes before hunger sets in again, not ovewhelming hunger, but its def there.
due to my adrenal gland issues, i cant have caffeine. it just irritates the shit outta them so the coffee wouldnt work for me
bunny, youre right. ive been tight on cash lately so ive been resorting to eating yogurt thats in my fridge cause i cant go food shopping til tomorrow, n everytime i eat yogurt, my stomach feels heavy like that too. shit sucks. i do take a probiotic in the morning though, like you said, just gotta hit up those digestive enzymes again.
i think youre right though. i need to experiment more to see what my body responds to. maybe i will incorporate a small amount of brown rice or quinoa at lunch only to see how my stomach reacts. maybe more fiber will help the digestive issues.

My ex took my vitamix I miss it. I ate so many veggies when I had that thing. You can literally throw everything and anything into one of those.

Man, I've had no appetite for the last week. I've been averaging about 800 calories a day and I have to force myself to eat that

Man, thank you so much for sharing all the info yesterday. I read the better part of yesterday afternoon digging into the blogs/research around IF/paleo for women. I am now super dubious about IF for women, but understand why it works for men. I really like Stefani Rupers (sp?) blog and how she has adapted paleo for women, very cool!
I am having my coconut oil coffee right now. Not only does it make my coffee taste super creamy & delicious, but it feels less acidic going down. I am loving this. Is there anything coconut oil can't do?
Yesterday after I stopped posting here I had a green smoothie before leaving to teach, then in between both of my classes I had a honeycrisp apple & then a bowl of oats, quinoa, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seed, and goji berries sprinkled with cinnamon and then soaked in almond milk. I love cold oatmeal, it's a revelation!
