woodchip prep question

Has anyone ever tried the microwave or oven instead of steam or pressure cooking. I have been growing shiitakes for a few years now and have a pretty big setup so i haven't had or tried to experiment. i am asking because i am holding a workshop for an off the grid living group and they dont want to invest in a pressure cooker or a large pot for the pasteurization of the chips. I suggested log inoculation and we are doing that also. I was just wondering if there were some other options or ideas. I typed this on my small ass phone sorry if there is any confusion

Growing mushrooms requires a bit of an investment to produce. Any "Off the grid" type folks should already have a PC or a big pot. If they don't have one they should get one.
There's a whole slew of justification for a PC and just as much for a large stock pot. Especially if interests lie with independence and self sufficiency.

This was discussed believe me. I dont really want to go into detail about the group that sought me out. Its an interesting story and they just started living off and self sustainable. They just wanted to make as small of an investment as possible. Just last minute i thought i would ask here to see if anyone tried or attempted at some off the wall technique.
Thanks for for answering

Maybe they could all pitch in and get a turkey fryer. Then they could all get together have fried turkey, boil veggies, hot water bath can, make a stew, and then boil up some wood chips after its all said and done.
How will they sterilize the grain to make spawn?

They run everything with gasifier's there is a couple microwaves on the land. They share everything and everything is re purposed. They do have a big pot im not really sure what the deal is. They didnt say it was out of the question investing in things that would be needed i was just wondering if there was any other ideas out there. They like the small counter top cake. I was trying to think outside the box and see what kind of things people have been trying.

i think there is a stamets technique somewhere where he basically soaks wood chips outside, anaerobically, and after a few days, i think 3-5, he drains the chips. some kind of anaerobic bacteria takes over during the soak while the chips are submerged, out competes the other competitors, and then, when the water is drained, that organism itself dies because of exposure to oxygen. thats how i remember it anyways, so it could be totally off (i have bad memory). he was doing it with SRA beds, I'm not sure if he ever did it with other species.
