Next step in cultivation?
    #21120724 - 01/14/15 02:24 PM (9 years, 4 months ago)

I've read SO many different articles and threads with so many different opinions, it's really hard to gather a general consensus. i'm only fruiting two cakes, so im going to get a fair sized transparent tote, but not the 10 gallon like i've heard because I'm only fruiting two cakes and don't feel like going and buying one, I just want to use a smaller one that I already have. Then I'll make an SGFC and add about 2-3 inches of water saturated perlite on the bottom. Then I'll do the daily misting of the walls and lids and fan it twice a day. Is this going to work? This is my first time so I don't care if it's not monumentally successful I just want a decent flush

Don't forget the 1/4" holes spaced every 2 inches in agrid patter, on all 6 sides....

We mist the cakes, not the walls and lid....mist the cakes.....then fan out the chamber after every misting.

I thought directly misting the cakes was harmful to them? The TEK on this site said just do walls and lid and avoid direct contact w/cakes?

It isn't "harmful." People just worry about brushing their cakes. If you're using a fine mist sprayer you'll be fine.

If you're worried about "directly" misting them, just let the overspray fall onto the cakes.

Mist the cakes directly with a fine and gentle mist until they glisten, then fan out the chamber.

When the water you have previously misted has evaporated, mist the cakes again....

You most likely have a good one under the kitchen sink.....all I use is a bottle sprayer head thing....but wash it really good if it has been used with any chemicals....

one more question, should I be worried about contaminants when i fan the container? the room i inoculated them in I made very sterile but the room i'll be fruiting them in will not be. Isn't the mycelium established enough at that point to resist contaminants? and do i continue to mist even when the fruit bodies begin to appear?

Fruiting isn't a sterile process, you'll be just fine

watch mushroomvideos.com part 1-4 as well.

The tek you're following probably has a lot of other outdated information as well, and those videos will show the correct way to do it.
