is the sort they sell at the hardware stores and garden centers any good for mushroom growing? what kind should i be looking for?

get the kind that's mostly cow and horse shit, and not much else. no sticks, or earth, or any of that useless stuff. just nutrients, and all easily pasteurisable.

i'm sure that if you live in the states someone can give you a brand name. if not, look for "shroomin'poop'n'straw brand" which can admittedly be hard to find.

Any sort of organic compost will work. Any sort of organic compost that has horse/cow/pig shit and/or bird droppings will be superbadass and cool
