humidity issues
    #21115513 - 01/13/15 04:13 PM (9 years, 4 months ago)

I'm on my second grow and im having serious problems keeping the humidity level up.

My first grow i got perlite from a grow kit and never had problems keeping it above 90%, this time around i bought some cheap organic perlite off of amazon and I can't get the humidity to crack 70% even with misting and a humidifier inside of my terrarium.

So im curious is this an issue of perlite quality? I know nothing about how perlite works so i dont wanna buy new perlite and not have a solution. My last grow was in the winter as well so naturally lower humidity levels did not cause problems last time.

If there is a humidifier in your terrarium and whatever you're using to measure humidity isn't reading 100, then something is wrong with your measurement. Properly build SGFC's provide a good mixture of wicking moisture and fresh air so I wouldn't worry too much about humidity, as long as your chamber is built to spec. You're using perlite so I'm assuming you're using a SGFC?

How deep is your perlite, and how big is your FC?

As long as the sgfc is built to specs, you can essentially set it and forget it. Just mist occasionally. As long as the cakes aren't drying out you shouldn't be so concerned with rh in an sgfc.

If by that you mean I have little holes drilled in the bottom of my terrarium for air flow then no. I didn't use those the first time around and had no humidity issues.

And I don't think my humidity reader is broken. I've got a couple cakes that refuse to start fruiting so there's definetly something up with the terrium.

SGFCs are the recommended fruiting chamber for cakes for a reason. I'd suggest picking a SGFC tek and stick to the specifications. If you design it wrong you'll run into problems
