Any Suggested Substrate/Casing for Koh Samui?
    #2111374 - 11/16/03 02:03 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

My cat wants to grow some koh samui's, and he's really just used to growing the PF cubies, with the MMGG (Magic Mushroom Growers Guide, he read it like, 3-4 years ago) tek (BRF substrate, cased in peat moss).

Anyways, that was an OK solution cause my cat had the PF spores, and didn't have a PC. Now, my cat ordered koh samuis, and bought a PC, so he's wondering... What should a good cat grow the koh samuis on?

Wondering what the koh samuis will colonize fastest with, and if there's a more recommendable substrate aside from peat moss (which seems weak IMHO).

TIA for any ideas/links/etc, peace!

use bird seed. read the FAQ.

peat moss is not a substrate, it's a casing material. i prefer to use coco coir. just mix up some coco coir about 2:1 with some verm, add one part oyster shell per ten parts coir, and hydrate it right (moist, not wet). layer it on 3/4 inch to a full inch.

you want a birdseed that predominantly millet, doesn't contain alot of sunflower seeds, and doesn't contain fungicides or nutrient supplements. there's usually at least one kind at any walmart or pet store that will fit the bill.

coco coir is sold as reptile bedding. it comes in compacted brick form by the brand name bed-a-beast. you get it at pet stores. crushed oyster shell is also available at pet stores. it's used as a calcium supplement for putting in bird feed.
