can i not just dry shrooms in the airing cupboard?
    #2111015 - 11/16/03 06:57 AM (20 years, 4 months ago)

hi there,
i hear that dry shrooms are more potent than fresh shrooms, so if i buy 30g of fresh cubensis i wanna dry them out... however, all the techniques are very technical, can i not just set the shrooms on a sheet of kitchen paper and set them in my dark, warm airing cupboard to dry overnight?

that will work fine, just takes a bit longer, be sure and put a fan on them if possible. oh, and that technique will probably take a lil longer than overnight, couple o days maybe.

One problem with this is, the shrooms go rock hard when dried in a warm place/too quickly.

Lay your shrooms out in a single file on newspaper and place them up above the cabinet tops so they have air. They will dry fine in two to three days. for more info read my field guide coming soon to the shroomery sight. It has a small chapter inb Drying shrooms, one I have used for edible shrooms for more than thirty years.

I just set the shrooms I used to get on a sheet of news papper and let it sit on top of my TV cabinet and they would dry perfectly fine in 2 days or so. As for them being more potent dry. I think you have that the other way around. Most people say wet is more potent.

So you can dry the shrooms without fanning just by sitting them on a news paper on top of a cabinet?

Both ways will dry the shrooms. Fanning and using desicant will leave the dry mushrooms larger. Just having them sit there with no fan will make them smaller. Thats what I have noticed. Also not fanning may give it a higher chance of mold growing or higher chance of it rotting away.

arrange like so, on a towel or some mewspaper, and turn a fan on em for a couple of days, you'll be glad you did

oh, and DON'T use water when you clean em  learned this little tip from MJ when he was passing it along to someone else, it makes a HUGE difference
