how do they do it

I been buying grow kits for a few years
but now i've mastered cake growing
all using the archive.
I'll never buy another kit but my question
is how do they make there kits, was i paying
for 2 cakes in a casing in a silver tray?
Watching my cakes grow got me wondering how
the trays dont start till they arrive, how do
they suspend growth on the mushroom kit.
From the time that kits made how long can
a shop keep it till it fruits, 3 weeks 4 weeks?
how do they suspend it
I think the age of it may have stopped some kits
i bought fruiting

Mycelium may be slowed right down by refrigeration (not freezing), they colonize, case then store in the fridge, that can hold it fine for a month or 2 (as long as the kit does not dry out). You can use this technique with cakes and jars if you don't have room in your fruiting chamber or you need to take some time out.

So i could make cakes
colonize them then put
them in a fridge and they'd survive
for 4 weeks.
Would a 50\50 casing survive for the
csame amount of time, i plan to move
onto casings soon.
It's just the thought of being ripped
off thats pisses me off.

It would, but the longer you leave it the lower the viability, but a month should be about fine. The bigest risk is from contams. I would get a ziplock bag, wipe well with iso alochol (let the iso evaporate) and seal the cakes/casings up before you stick them in the fridge.

Kits for fine for some, but with a bloody good resourse like the Shroomery, a little application you can do lot better and cheaper yourself, and its a lot more fun. A ready to fruit cake can make quite a nice and original present as well :smile:

However you should get disheartened if you let less 100% success all the time, there will always one to 2 fall to the green meenie or something, just make sure you have a few on the go and it will be fine. It is a great little hobby :smile:

Even i never realised you could stall a cake or casing
using the fridge, and for 3 to 4 weeks.
