Mycobag only producing small fruits
    #21108610 - 01/12/15 04:12 PM (9 years, 4 months ago)

I have a fantastic grow using mycobags with rye berry spawn and a prepasteurized substrate and got about 4 flushes out of. The sub never contamed so I figured it was time to colonize a spare bag of sub I had. I broke up the bag and took the healthy mycelium and transferred it over to the other bag. After a couple week of little growth I assumed that my experiment was a failure and left the bag with little hope of progression. A couple of weeks ago I realized that this bag had produced invirto fruit however because of my lack of care they were long and stringy (do probably to my lack of fanning and air exchange). The bag isn't fully colonized but I made the decision to put it in fruiting conditions. Since then I have been getting fruits here and there but no real flushes and they lack any real weight. My largest was 1.2 grams but since then I'm luck if I get a .5 gram fruit. Colonization isn't really progressing and I cant seem to get it going(maybe all energy is going towards fruiting) but it smells fine and shroomy, no sighs of contams. The strain is B+ cubenesis and my fruiting conditions are misting and fanning twice a day and 12 hour with 6500k light,12 hours of dark at about 70 degrees F. Any advice on how to get it flushing or colonizing would be appreciated. I'd post pics but don't have a cam at the time. Thanks

Once your spawn flushes four times you have very weak myc. Using that as spawn will cause extremely slow colonization as you've seen.

My advice would be to inoculate a different bag from syringe and G2G that to as many mycobags as you want. Next time G2G before you flush.

You are fruiting the bag how? You aren't opening the bag and just fruiting as is?

No Im misting and fanning then resealing the bag with a bag clip. I have a syringe of albino a+ about 5 cc and some more grain bags colonizing is it worth inoculating this bag or should I leave as is and hope for the best. I have a pin growing right now so its still producing.

So you're fruiting right out of the bag and not mixing with a bulk sub?

No I had grain bags which I mixed with bulk in a bag and fruited invirto. This was my first grow. I then took the flush out mycelium and transferred to a different sub bag that like you said is experiencing some weak colonization. With the new albino grain bags I have I hope to create a monotub with some bulk sub I've got.

Great,

Start new bags with your APE. You're just experiencing weak myc colonization because its already been through so much.

Thanks this bag was really just to hold me over until the grains are fully colonized. I suppose I'll get what I get and be happy that it's still producing anything.
Thank you for your help taGyo

Do you think that 2 lbs of grain and 5 lbs of sub is good for a monotub? I'm lacking experience with tubs and just want to make sure thats good.

Yup.

I fill my monotubs three inches, dump all my spawn on top, mix really well, add more substrate to get it up to around 3-1/2" and then make sure it's all level by patting it down gently. Don't compact it. Then add an extra 1/4" of substrate to cover any exposed grains, level that out (I don't pat this part), let that fully colonize.

Then if you want to add a casing layer I'd let it sit for a day or two at full colonization, case with your substrate and fruit immediately.

That being said you don't need a casing layer for cubes. 4" is recommended total sub depth, meaning including mixed-in grains.

Thanks I can't wait for my first tub. Those white fruits are going to be sick.

The bag wasn't fully colonized when you started fruiting it? You're lucky it didn't go green man! You definitly want grain to be 100% colonized
