Did I make the holes on my jar too big?
    #21107873 - 01/12/15 01:53 PM (9 years, 4 months ago)

I drilled holes in my lids and covered them with ez felt, but now the slow colonization times of my blue oysters make me think that the holes I drilled were too large and they dried out. I think the hole was close to 1"........advice?

Do the grains look dry?
From the Tek I followed, I think it should be closer to 1/4" hole.

The grains look fine.
Not so sure about the mycelium though. Last three don't look like Oyster mycelium to me.

I'm about 99% sure the mycelium is fine.

it looks fine to me too so far, looks like u used LC for the oyster?

i have friends who just use a lid ring and an SFD, and it works out 90% of the time, so a 1" hole ain't too bad, ur top grains might dry out if it takes too long to colonize, but not the end of the world.

Yeah it was an LC, this is the only jar that is showing signs of life right now. The Enoki seems to be doing alright, so that's good.
