Owning exotic fish
    #21107564 - 01/12/15 12:50 PM (9 years, 4 months ago)

Today I was at a pet store with the lady getting some supplies for her Beta fish. In years past I've never been into fish as pets really, my logic being that they are pretty boring, just swimming around all day. You can't pick them up and pet them, communicate with them, or teach them tricks.

Today I found out that I was wrong! They are not boring at all, in fact they are quite fascinating. I found myself with my face almost touching the tanks in the store, just studying the fish and their movements, as well as the amazing plant life. They seemed to notice my presence and swam up to the tank to study my face. The coral reef and Sea anemones are WILD, with such alien design and vivid colors.

This all got me thinking, I NEED to have some of this so when I trip I can just watch. I can just imagine how incredible everything would look in that state of mind.
Does anyone here own any exotic/saltwater fish? If so, can you give me a rough guesstimate about how expensive they are to maintain? I realize that the initial costs of the fish, flora, tank, and the misc. tank decor would be kind of high, but for example, heating the water on a constant basis and food, etc.

I am going to do some extensive research on the subject but I would still like to hear your input!

A fish tank is like having another TV.

Yes! I saw this one tank in particular at the store that was set up exactly like "Finding Nemo." It had various Sea anemone along with 2 clown fish, (One big and one small, like Marlin and Nemo) a fish like Dory, (can't remember the name of the type) and a fish that looked like the one with the scar that helps Nemo escape. It was cool as hell!

Lol I have a cat and she LOVES watch the one Betta fish we have. The little fish bowl set up we have has this lid with really cool LED lights built in. They change colors, cycle, and just look all around awesome lol but the point is it keeps the cat from eating our little aquatic friend

Fish tanks are awesome, but not as awesome as the fish. I use to have a neighbor who had turned his garage into a mini aquarium, he had all sorts of fish, and he seemed to take care of them extremely well. Just thought it was kinda of cool.

It's also like having a farm!

Or a place to wash your hands

Its also a great pebble container.

Get a line and worms, you got yourself a new game to master.
